Actually, the only way you can do reverse search for free is use Google or Yahoo or MSN.
Type in the phone number
"xxx-xxx-xxxx"
or
"(xxx) xxx xxxx"
You might be able to get the information you want.
Paid results are a bit of risk, but if the company offers a refund policy then you could try it.
I used one such service in the US called http://www.reversecellphonerecords.com -Reverse Cell Phone Records. They have a 56 day guarantee - no results, then get a refund.
But try Google, MSN and Yahoo first. If nothing works out the above is a good place to go to.
For the do it yourself guys here's a detailed tutorial on on conducting a free reverse lookup using search engines at http://www.zimbio.com/free+reverse+cell+phone+lookup - Free Reverse Cell Phone Lookup - Zimbio.
Good Luck

Get a No Cost Phone Number Scan at https://bitly.im/aL1YI
Its a good way to start. The place lets you to do a no cost phone scan simply to find out if any telephone data is there. This basic alalysis is done without cost. For a full detailed report its a modest payment.
Here's Reverse / Whose Number Lookup page. If you're talking about cell phones, you usually have to pay for that. I've had pretty good luck just using Google a phone number to find out who's calling. If you are researching a quantity of numbers, though, I suppose, you might want a service. I can't imagine why the average person would need to research a quantity of numbers, though, so I assume this is business-related, and it then seems only fair that you pay for a service. But maybe it's not.

I used that website http://www.echeck.pcti-system.com .. the one referenced by that detective guy Ronnie. I found exactly what I was looking for. So much for Mr Right, or rather Mr Convicted Felon with 2 Liens against him totaling over 30,000$ and an ex-wife I never knew about!! Thank God I found out the truth before it was too late. We were almost engaged!!

In the US, you can use "reverse" phone lookup - you enter the phone number and it gives you who's listed in the directory for it as long as it's not an unpublished number or a cell phone number. I have a friend that used a pet's name for his phone listing and another who used one of his computers' names. IDK if reverse lookup is available for phones in England.
