4 Miles a day is very good - but only if you are wearing some appropriate shoes. You may want to investigate sneakers like New Balance or Rockport. I have already been through plantar fasciatitis and morton's neuroma. Both extremely painful. Required months of doctor-prescribed exercises and shoe inserts. No more barefooted around the house - got a pair of Birkenstocks - and no longer leave the house without leather arch supports. Check out Footsmart.com. They have leather arch supports, 3/4 length, for $15 a pair.

New Balance shoes here:

Sounds like to have a falling arch and orthotics for your shoes will really help this but they are expensive and you can only get the custom made ones from the foot doc but you can buy some arch supports at any store, and also the foot doc recommends New Balance shoes.. Good luck

Shoes are a very important part of foot care. Make sure you see a podiatrist first. Most of the ones I have seen suggest New Balance.
