50 miles into the car the "Service Engine Light" comes on. I checked to make sure the gas cap was on tight and i am almost 100% full on gas. Any defects on this Model and what could be potential reasons this light came on.? Thanks.

The check engine light could be due to any number of things, however, you should just take the car back to the dealer and have them diagnose and repair the problem. Your car has a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty so any repairs will be covered by it.
It is a new car so I would think that it's something minor such as the oxygen sensors. Toyota had this problem on some of their Camrys a while back if I am not mistaken.
There is a recall, however, for the engine air filter of the 2007 Altima. The current air filter may ignite if a significantly hot object comes into contact with it. Dealers are instructed to replace the filter with one that has improved anti inflammatory characteristics.
As I said before the best thing is to go to the dealer regarding the check engine light. A private mechanic may charge you a diagnostic fee whereas the dealer will have to perform diagnosis and repair free of charge to you. If you go in to the dealer they can also check to see if your car is affected by the recall and they can replace the filter for you at the same time.

Malfunction Indicator Light, Check Engine Light, Can be turned on by almost 600 things that get checked each time your car gets driven. The 2007 Altima uses a push button start system and advanced engine electronics. DO NOT PLUG IN AUTO-ZONE SCAN TOOL! Nissan Consult 3 diagnositic tool only until the scan tool industry makes a newer scan tool specific to Nissan. Probably something simple but you will have to return to the dealership. Gather up all your key fobs just in case if the technician needs to re introduce them after an electronic unit replacement. We really don't have any emission electronic system problems with the 2007 and 2008 Altimas.

Don't panic. The check engine light only means you have a problem with the emission system. I would, in fact, get the codes read. If the dealer is honest he will read the codes and tell you the problem. I would then get a second opinion or bring the code number or numbers back here and maybe we can save you some money. Don't change any parts. NEVER replace any part till you know the problem. An O2 sensor code does not mean change the sensor. This is a common money maker for auto shops. There are several other codes that are money makers so be careful.

no mechanic! go right back to the dealer and demand they get their mechanic asap. your warranty could be void if the car is not serviced by a nissan/dealer mechanic. tell them you want it serviced now!!!!
