It is possible, I'm smart, classy and confident in myself with two tattoos. Got my second yesterday. I think Audrey Hepburn would have a diamond or something like that, up town girls would have very classic trendy designs that show off an elegant personality. Mine are a reflection of me. I'm going into teaching so I can hide both if needed.

I consider myself to be 'sophisticated' when the occasion calls for it. (At all other times I'm really laid-back.)
I do see them having tattoos, maybe Audrey would have a black cat on her hip, like in the link below. But with yellow eyes.

For sure, tatoos are an art form, and it all depends on the way you use them. I've got two small tatoos, one is of a decorative pentagram (my fiance has the same tattoo) on the back of my neck, hidden under my hair most of the time, and the other is a black rose on my hip.
They're hardly ever seen, and always surprise people when they show up.

Since I'm pretty heavily tattooed, I'd like to think 'yes'. I feel like as long as you dress well, are stylish, and carry yourself well, you're elegant.
Beauty and elegance is in the eye of the beholder. I still follow fashion trends, shop at mainstream stores (I love Forever 21! Haha) and I've got a lot of tattoos: http://www.myspace.com/lavietriste

honestly, if they did it would be some dumb generic tattoo and not at all a custom peice of art. which is sad because they would totally be able to afford the best. oh well. if i ever become a sophistocated uptown new york girl... i'll totally rock my tattoos!

One of my teachers was like an organized freak, who always dressed fashionable and chic and looked good everyday. Then one day I saw she had a tattoo on her leg! I think it was chinese symbols but I can't remember too well.

Of course it is. It all depends on the style that you use, and the way you carry yourself.
Tattooed people aren't all alike anymore than black/white/whatever people are all alike.
