The Sacred Tradition of the Church supported by the Scriptures tells us to love each other within His Church and even our enemies. What greater love can we show for another than to pray for them. We ask for the prayers of other because the bible tells us to as well as the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.

The Bible further states that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses which are the saints that have gone before us and have won the race in which we all have hope through Christ. The Scriptures tell us that when we ask them to pray for us they present our prayers before the altar of God. So, all of us within the Church are to encourage each other in faith and devotion including the Church militant , suffering and triumphant out of love for one another through prayer. This devotion to each other illustrates the faith of our fathers and the teaching of Christ.

Oregon Flower,

If St. Mary is indeed dead then none of us have any hope for salvation as she was the most blessed of all humanity chosen by God to bear His Son for the salvation of all humanity. She is most certainly with Her Son in heaven and not dead as you say.

There is power in prayer. The Bible says where two or more are gathered in my Name, there I am in the midst of them. If two of you agree in prayer mountains can be moved. We are not to pray to dead people like Mary, or the saints( the apostles). We pray to the Father through the name of Jesus. If we have someone agree in prayer they are a partner that agrees w/ us for our needs. They can be an intercessor but not THE intercessor. An intercessor is a middleman on our behalf. We can intercede in prayer for someone- pray on their behalf for healing, salvation, or anything else.

To address the prior answer to this question; No where in the Bible does it say to pray to anyone or anything else but to God in the old testament and to God through Jesus in the new testament.

Yes, In a way all who pray for a person are intercessors..... the Bible tells us *where 2 or more are gathered in His name*, that could also mean in prayer..Prayers are like sweet incense going up to the throne of God..... the MORE prayers the sweeter it is...... Jesus is more than just the intercessor for prayers tho, He intercedes when satan accuses the children of God...... Jesus remains forever faithful to those who are called of God, who hold fast to the truth that Jesus, died, was buried and arose again on the third day, who believe he is the Savior....Jesus bought and paid for us, he is our lawyer as well as judge..... and sooooo much more........ go in peace...... God bless

Because the bible says pray one for another. When the bible is speaking of Jesus as "mediator", that means between us (human beings) and God. It is different when we pray together as people. The bible says we can come before the throne of grace to obtain mercy because of Jesus. It doesn't matter if one person prays for us, or twenty do.....all our prayers can access God's throne only through the mediator between human beings and God; Jesus Christ.

Because we give people the opportunity to do an act of faith when we ask.

Faith pleases God. And those who trust in Him will not be ashamed. That's in the Bible:
1 Peter 2:6
For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

Those who are praying are doing what Jesus commanded. And those who pray to someone else are not trusting God, they are trusting in someone else.

The verse is saying that only Jesus can give us access to God. That doesn't mean that another person can't gain that access to God and then use it to speak on your behalf.

because they are supposed to pray to JESUS. For some reason people think that if more people petition God for a miracle God is more likely to accede.

It is more of a comforting thing rather than actually expecting God to answer my prayers through someone else. Peace

No. They pray through Jesus just as we do. There is power in prayer, so the more who pray for a person, the more power there is.

It's when we pray through a dead person (like the virgin Mary) that we go astray.

God bless!
