It is like someone who has parkinsons disease would do I guess would be a better way to explain it. He dont do it for long but it is pretty scary. It is kinda of like he his cold or scared maybe, but the rest of his body dont shiver. When I cover him up or scratch behind his ears he stops. Any advice? I am very paranoid about everything my animals do that dont seem normal. Am I just being over paranoid or what?

Thanx everyone for their advice you guys are all great. I do need to add that he is not shaking his head like he does when he is wet or just "shaking off" ( I know that dont sound right and probably dont make sense either) anyways it is like he is shaking his head "NO" but not moving his neck to much. Maybe that explains it a little better, anyways maybe I'm still being paranoid huh? Thanx again to everyone who answered.Keep 'em coming!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your dog may have ear mites. They are little bugs that crawl around and multiply in the dog's ears. They drive the dog crazy with the itching. The dog shakes his head like crazy and scratches a lot around the head and neck area. I had 2 dogs that had them. See if he has a coffee coloured wax in his ears. Use cotton balls, no q-tips and clean inside his ears. You will notice a lot of the coloured wax and maybe a little blood because the mites bite. They are white and hard to see unless you have the proper magnification. You can see a vet if you are not certain. If you want to treat for mites, there are treatment drops at pet stores and vets.

Do his ears appear dirty or are they smelly? Something maybe irritating his ears such as ear mites or an infection. I'd have it looked by your vet to be on the safe side.
My concern with this besides the possibility of mites or infection is that repeatedly doing this can cause an ear hematoma. Basically a large blood blister on the ear that also requires veterinary attention. I'd err on the side of caution and have it looked at just to be sure.

What about a fox tail? You can never see them unless you go to the vet. It may also be an ear infection. Ear problems are very painful for dogs

I've had foster dogs that shake their heads because they had an ear infection. They're trying to relieve it. Maybe you should look in his ears and make sure everything looks and smells okay. If not, take him to the vet.

Look in the little fellow's ears. If you see some muddy looking nasty gunk in the ear, it is almost certain to be caused by ear mites.
It is not that difficult to treat ear mites, but it takes a while, and they come back.

Maybe something in the ears. Water, moister can cause a dog to do this. But I would seek Medical attention as soon as possible

How old is your dog? When was the last time he had an exam?
Your dog could be shaking his head because of an ear infection, ear mites, allergies, loss of balance, epilepsy, etc. Could be something minor, could be something major.
I would recommend you take your dog in for an exam soon. (I would if my dog was exhibiting these symptoms)
Good luck.

I wonder if he has ear infections or ear mites. If they itch because of either of these reasons a dog will act like that.

Perhaps he has ear mites. I believe you can buy medication at pet stores. But it would be a good idea to see a vet.
