Call the electric company, explain the situation and ask for an extension of your bill. They may let you pay a lower amount until you get your first check. Then, about the uniform. Ask them if they will take the price of the uniform out of your first check. Employers do it all the time!
Right now you are feeling overwhelmed with everything that is happening and can't sort things out in your mind. Just try some of the tips you get here and I think that you willl be okay. Have confidence that these things will work and they will! Good luck hon~

Your TANF caseworker may be a great source of assisting you with the planning info to tackle this one. The city where I live has resource phone lists (which a caseworker should have, as well as others in helping professions, such as churches or hospitals, and your children's school would likely know) By finding what options are listed in your area, it will help you with where to go to ask. Part of the object of the TANF program is to help you get on your feet and to learn effective ways to tackle the difficult things all parents face.
Very likely, there is a place in your area that provides uniforms or "office work clothing" at little or no cost.
Let's say you have to pay for the uniform yourself, but it would come out of your food money you have cash for.........so, if you go to a "food bank" for your groceries for this week, then you can use the cash to pay for the uniform.
Maybe you know someone else who works there, and you can borrow a uniform of theirs for a few days.
Churches often will help people.
Your caseworker may be your best source of information on handling these urgent issues Sometimes they may be able to supply more than a phone number, maybe a note to your electric company stating something. The caseworker can also tell you the months LEAP helps with, and when to apply.
With the electric company, talk with them. They deal with this type of situation all the time. You may be able to arrange a date when your first partial payment can extend your service.

Get out the yellow pages and write down the names and phone numbers of your local churches. They usually have a special fund set aside for needs such as yours. I know the electric company in West Tennessee WILL NOT work with people on making payments under any circumstance. They shut off the power and think nothing of it.
Call all the local churches Monday morning and you should be able to round up your electric bill and uniform money. As long as they know you are starting a new job, they should be able to help. This is only a temporary situation and should improve with your job. I sincerely wish you the best of luck!

Contact your local Department of Human Services office and have them get you the information for the ILEAP program that can pay emergency bills for you. They can also help you with referrals for support groups, medications and physicians so that you don';t feel like you have to go it alone. Being a single MOM is so very hard, just reach out to your church, your friends and ask for help- you will be surprised how many people will come to your side. Call your local hotline for depression and mental health in the phone book or ask at the hospital. Take back your life and enjoy your family. You can do it!!

No matter where you live, there are a lot of agencies and churches that will help you. Look in the yellow pages or on line. My church paid $250 in util bills for me and Catholic Charities paid $100 towards my rent. I've also gone to food pantries 2x and they will give you quite a bit of food. You will be okay. Take it one day at a time and consider praying and thanking God for all that you DO have! God will be there for you. :)

Sorry Chrystal, but I would not have had children that I could not afford to begin with. Are there no friends or family that can help you out? I have no idea what TANF is. Where is their father? Why is your electric bill so high? Sounds like you need to budget better. In the meantime, until you get your first check, do you have anything you can sell. Old children's clothes that they have outgrown, toys, jewelry, etc?

I can tell you that our electric company works with us, call them and promise them X amount on this date, maybe after your first payday?
