I have learned:

1. about ignosticism (no, not agnosticism) and what it means. Props to Zero Cool.

2. how I like cool and funny people more than those who happen to agree with me

3. more about separation of church and state

4. more about Dawkins' view of religion, general views of science, and the difficulty of theology itself

5. more about myself. I care more and less than I think I care about certain ideas and beliefs. I like people more than I think I do.

Oh, smoke. A lot of things of course. Some idiots make me laugh. Some deserve my respect. I have read the Bible through and through. Oh, smoke.

I have met new friends here.

Also from the content of some questions they're must be some very bored people on here.

I have yet to understand why anyone that doesn't share the same beliefs would target a certain belief they detest. If I didn't live /agree with certain beliefs /views I would stay away from such things.

Because I love talking to people of all kinds, I learned that it is possible to communicate our ideas with everyone, no matter how different they might be. Most people, if they are serious, take a moment to ponder on the concepts that one puts forth. That's the beginning of real thinking -- the practice of the critical faculty.

Above all, I enjoy when someone succeeds through reason, and reason alone, to make me re-think, in case I might have committed a logical fallacy in my own thinking process.

I have learned the need for:
1) Tolerance for others.
2) The need for objectivity.
3) An appreciation for what God is doing with me, as far as, my life is concerned.
4) Unless God "opens" up the mind of an individual - it is futile to attempt to explain in 5 minutes what has taken me a life-time to learn.
5) That God LOVES all people on here - even the ones who don't love Him.
6) That "religious" people require a lot of spiritual maturing to do.

I've learned that there are a great many beliefs out there, the majority of which differ from what I personally believe. I've also learned that some of these beliefs, although quite different from the teachings of my own religion, actually make sense to me. I'm grateful to have gotten a chance to learn about these alternative viewpoints.

If you're an atheist, I apologize in advance of this answer... but you asked!!

I have learned that, in general, atheists must consider Christians (and most other faiths) as being stupid people.

Why? Because if they gave us any "credit" for brains, that would mean that there has to be some validity to our faith. That validity would then force these people to have to rethink THEIR ... um... "faiths"... and they don't want to do that.

You see? Told you you wouldn't like hearing that... but you asked what I've learned on R&S.

Have a blessed day!

That many of the people that ask questions to "confront" others about their beliefs, under the guise of being open minded, are not open minded at all.

They generally have their mind made up when they ask the question and are seeking affirmation from those that agree with them.
