Roaddogg says you can take a bus from NJ to NYC. How easy is this & how long does it take.I plan to be in the city for a weekend & would rather not spend all my time riding a bus.
Is this a good way to go?

The train is faster...
Especially in traffic...
And more comfortable...

Buy tickets at station (not on train) to avoid $3 fine...
And round trip tickets save you money...

It's a pretty good way to go. Last weekend I took a bus out of Freehold (central nj) to NYC Port Authority and it only took about an hour. It depends on who they are dropping off and picking up. the less people they have to stop for the quicker you get there. It cost 11.75 from freehold to nyc.

Port Authority is in Manhattan btw. Buses in my area leave about every half an hour to NYC. They depart from NYC about every half hour also. You can go to njtransit.com to find schedules. GOOD LUCK!

I went to see my boyfriend in Mass but you can get to many places from Port Authority.

depends where in jersey you are coming from. there is a bus from the south mountain arena in west orange that goes direct to the city. there is a parking garage there and takes you direct to port authority. quick and easy - if you're traveling during rush hour, the buses have their own lane, so you'll bypass the traffic- i'd say it takes approx 45 min or so

Your best bet is probably a bus from the airport to the Port Authority 9th Avenue terminal in NYC, then the subway to the vicinity of 25th Street (which stop is determined by which line you take - any of the west side lines [the bus terminal is on the west side] will get you pretty close).

I prefer the train ..NJ Transit. Traffic can slow things down on a bus.
