I've seen a couple places that have it down to about 250 or 350. Would you trust these...at all?

Also, if you have any suggestions to websites where I can order it at a good price, but still get it..you know...reliabely...?

Many of us trust and recommend B&H Photo. I have been using them for many years without a single problem. B&H Photo is available through a link at Yahoo! Shopping, www.bhphoto.com or at 1-800-622-4987. See also http://www.resellerratings.com/store/B_H_Photo_Video_Pro_Audio

Beach Camera is another excellent company.

Canoga Camera 10.0 of 10.0 (They are relatively new.)

ALWAYS check http://www.resellerratings.com/ before buying a camera on-line.

Many places with those $300 prices rate 1.0 or lower.

I've recently been looking on eBay, searching for good prices on either the D80 or D200. The absolute best trustable prices for the D80 seem to be in the $700-850 range-- usually body only or with a third-party basic zoom lens. I've occasionally run across listings where the price seems too good to be true-- and on some occasions a camera would be listed under some bizarre catergory like "Home and Garden" supplies. Be very careful when you see something like that. Digital cameras are a popular type of item used by ebay scammers. Check a seller's feedback, especially on similar items to the one you're interested in.

The D80 is still a relatively new model and hasn't lost it's popularity quite yet. Probably not until the next resolution jump in a year or two. I don't expect the price to drop very much right away. As for $250-350, sounds pretty fishy. If that's true, there's no way they're brand new. They could demos used at retail stores, or more likely they're refurbished-- sent back to Nikon because something was wrong with them initially. If even this were true, you'll usually still get a useable camera, but it's probably not under any kind of warranty. Just keep in mind that you usually get what you pay for.

Ask the seller this one simple question: "Does this camera have a full USA warranty?" If they reply "Well it has a manufacturer's warranty" or words to that effect, stay away from them. Most likely its a "gray market" camera, bought in Singapore or Taiwan or Hong Kong and imported into the USA to be sold at a lower price. The only problem is that the warranty is only good in the country where it was originally sold. NikonUSA, CanonUSA, SonyUSa, etc. will not service these "gray market" cameras.

Dr Sam and others covered this pretty well. You won't be able to buy a US D80 for $350. Save yourself some pain and trouble and order it from B&H, or get it at your local camera store or big box retailer.

I hope these are helpful.

p.s. The photos in the link below were shot with a D50, the older brother to the D40 with the same 6mp resolution.

This may sound crazy, but recently I got myself a new camera on ebay. It's a great digital, fuji, with all the bells and whistles. I got it for a great price and sellers on ebay generally won't risk their ratings by mis-advertising. they MUST disclose any problems or imperfections with their product. I've even bought three cars on ebay and been thrilled with all of them.
