While I only did perm duty time in Hanua, Germany I can tell you that it is location location location. Germany had some sorry places just like CONUS.
In civilian life I have been to El Paso (Ft Bliss) many times and give the town 2 thumbs up. When I was working there on and off the ratio of women to men was 8 to 1
Ft Hood, thumbs down
Ft Carson, yeah right winter in Colorado, freaking buuurrrr.
Ft Gordan GA, thumbs up (did AIT there)
Ft. Huachuca AZ, long way to civilization. thumbs down
Ft. Irwn CA, God's enema target. 3 thumbs down
Ft Lewis WA, a wet thumbs up.
Any place close to DC a 2 thumbs up.
Yuma Proving Grounds AZ. another enema target. 2 thumbs down
Presidio Monterey CA, 5 thumbs up.
Ft Sam Houston, San Antonio TX 2 thumbs up.
Never been to Fts Polk, Bragg, Drumm or Campbell

It all depends on what you do in the army and if you want to deploy or not. Germany is beautiful but you're almost guaranteed a deployment. I'm in Ft. Irwin and we love it. It's in the middle of nowhere but we're only a couple of hours away from Vegas and L.A. so we always have something to do on the weekends. Ft. Lewis and Carson is nice. Hate Bragg!!!

Even though we are AF I just have to say that Ft. Carson is a wonderful Army base. When we were stationed at Peterson we would drive all the way to Ft/ Carson to go to the commissary and BX because it was just better. The base is beautiful. we had several friends that lived in base housng and it was just as good as our AF housing.

I can tell you that it's not Ft. Hood, Tx. Ft. Belvoir (sp?), Va was the best spot i was stationed. Pretty area and near a major city, and DC for nice sightseeing, not to mention the red light district.

Belvoir isn't bad, assuming that you don't hate DC. Bragg sucks. Stuttgart is OK, but I'd rather be in Heidelberg. Carson is awesome. Ft. Irwin is quite possibly the worst place on earth.

Germany or Italy. Why would you want to be stationed in the U.S.? See the world.
