Andrea: Sadly; there are those who carry the "badge" of religion that have nothing better to do than try and convert others. This demonstrates a very, lack of faith in God, for Him to do it. When are religious people going to get it right ?
God does the "calling" - not people (see: John, chapter 6, verse 44) . Christians are to be seen living the faith and not heard (unless asked). There is nothing more irritating than people trying to do God's job for Him. God created the universe and to draw people to Himself would be simply, easy ! Tell these or this individual what I have stated, here.
P.S. As a Christian myself, I hope, that all the religious folk out there, take note on the feelings being expressed by the non-believers about being "preached at". To place a "stumbling block" in front of someone is not God's way, no matter how you attempt to justify it. This does not show love to others. Jesus did not go about trying to convert everyone He came into contact with and why should you ?

Proselytizing? Witnessing? Being a jerk?
I think it depends on who is doing it. I mean you can ordinarily just tell them you're not interested and to leave you alone. If it's somebody you work with or a teacher or something, you could complain because that's inappropriate in a workplace or public school.

It can be called preaching or prostelystising (sp?) but I call it
plain rude!
You have a right to not be put in a place that you feel uncomfortable, and to not put up with things and people who
push you in ways you do not want.
Tell them "No!" loudly, firmly, and repeatedly, until they get the message that you do not appreciate their pushing their beliefs on you. Tell them to leave you alone, that they are not welcome to speak to you, and if you can, go away from
them. Tell them how uncomfortable the preaching makes you. Just because they believe that way, doesn't make it
right for them to do this to you.

They are trying to "convert" you ? If religious people bother you consistantly and they hound you all the time get some evidence of it. You can bring up "STALKING" charges against them and also charges of "HARASSMENT." If by chance they bother you at home to where you lose sleep or can not live in peace at home, I would check myself in at the hospital and CALL police to take down a statement of WHY you went there claiming exhaustion and bodily endangerment. LEGALLY, you can put people in jail and even prison nowadays who IMPOSE their own lifestyles on others and will not leave you alone......

It is called "when people try to force you into a religion".
How can they force you anyway? Hit you over the head and drag you to a middle eastern country? Ignore them and find new friends.

It is conversion. That applies if you become convinced of the validity of the religion and wish to be affiliated with it.
It is coercion if you are actually forced to become a member of a group to which you do not wish to belong.

Convert. Tell them you are comfortable with your religion and do not feel you need to change, be firm and don't give in, and ask them nicely not to bother you with it again.

first, the ones who try to what you said, PUSH it on you? cult?? is that what you mean?
second, only YOU can stop them by saying, LOOK LEAVE ME ALONE ABOUT IT.. we can talk about anything else in the world, but if you talk religion again, Im done with you..
IF they respected you, they would have already left you alone about it...
