It all depends on your taste in games, as it is the games that makes the console, but if you mean based purely on features, the ps3. Here are my reasons.

*Cell Processor- The cell processor is an extremely powerful micro processor built of 8 processors (PPE's) and one PPE. This processor is built for extreme amounts of processing and is very useful for multi tasking through artificial intelligence, physics, lighting navigation, etc- The xbox 360 has a 3 core processor, which is great, though it's less than half as powerful as the ps3.

*RSX GPU- The RSX is a powerful GPU which is specialized to work with the cell processor to render DX10 like graphics by pooling it's RAM.- The xbox 360's GPU is technically around the same level as the RSX, though the RSX works in unison with the cell by pooling RAM, the 360's GPU doesn't.

*Blu Ray- The next generation disc medium which can store up to 50GB (100GB in experimental models) The extra space allows game developers to make large responsive environments, complex artificial intelegance, HD video and audio, etc. without compression.- The xbox 360 uses DVD's only for games, which can only hold 9.5GB, and with the 360 if you want to watch movies in HD you have to buy an HD DVD drive for $200 (even though blu ray is better than HD DVD)

*Other operating systems- The ps3 can get different operating systems installed, such as Linux, allowing it to be an alternative computer, and you can install many diferent programs.~ the xbox 360 can't do that, neither can the wii.

*Web browser- The ps3 has a decent web browser, which you can go to many different web sites with, it does have basic flash updates, but it does need to be improved upon, including in java, though this can be fixed easily via a firmware upgrade. Many popular sites like myspace and youtube are accessable though.- The xbox 360 has no web browser

*Play TV- Pretty much Tivo for your ps3, a tuner that you can record things with. Though it has only been announced to launch in Europe so far.

*Interchangeable hard drive- This pretty much means you can change the size of your hard drive with any hard drive so you can store more things.- You have to buy microsofts HDD for an extremely high price

*Built in wifi- With the xbox 360 you have to buy a wifi adapter for $100, this comes standard in the PS3.

*Free Online- With the 360 you have to pay

*Playstation Home- Playstation home is an interactive community of ps3 users where you can play games or meet up with friends and hang out at your virtual home and hang outs, as well as stream live media(releasing in october, and is FREE)

* Games- Many games are coming to the ps3 soon, such as Warhawk, heavenly sword, lair, ratchet and clank, Uncharted, Haze, Unreal tournament 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, etc. Over 300 games will be released by next spring.

I've always been a PS man. The PS2 is awesome for price and the WII is cool but aimed toward younger kids, I think. Although the controller takes some getting used to, the xbox 360 rocks graphically. My buddy has one and Call of Duty 4 blew me away. Sooner or later I'll have to choose between PS3 or xbox360. I would easily say xbox 360 if it weren' for the sh*tload of ps2 games I still want to play. Might just have to hook up 2 gaming systems and master both controllers. XBOX, I hate to say, does have the upper hand for older gamers.

Well i depends on what your after, if you want a large selection of games, you want to look at the PS2, if you want a console that does it all, games, movies, music, pics, Internet you need the PS3 or to a lesser degree the Xbox 360. The Nintendo Wii is a great console but is aimed at the other side of the market, the side that the PS3 and the xbox 360 have both overlooked, children and family's. The Wii as compared to other seventh generation game consoles is focusing on physically active and engaging games and applications and more "child friendly" games, as well as having a much nicer looking price tag. Though the PS3 has a high-tech motion sensor it is not in the same "arena" as the Wii. It can be said that the xbox 360 is Microsoft's feeble attempt at trying to beat Sony and Nintendo in the seventh generation of game consoles. This is due to the xbox's lacking of many features and having to pay for on line gaming and downloads as well as having a poor graphics system and much smaller and less quality games as that of the PS3. If you ask me i would say without a dought the PS3 is by far the best.

Thanks, Mat.

in case ur wondering i do this stuff for a living.

PS3 if you want to go next generation, it's more powerful, durable and more capable, while the 360 is the most unreliable system, 33% fail and have to be returned and the Wii, if you want a souped up Gamecube with a new controller and games that will get old after awhile and developers will have a hard time developing for then be my guest. If you want to go further back PS2 is just fine for gaming, decent online and a huge library of games to play, whether PS1 or PS2 games. Plus they are inexpensive, you can pick one up for $130 Canadian. But I would say go for the PS3, it may cost more than the 360 and Wii, but it plays more games than the others play thanks to the PS1 and PS2 games available and will offer much better gameplay in the future, plus it's a Blu-Ray player which will be the future format for movies.

Here I'll compare PS3 and Xbox 360, because PS1 and PS2 are old and Wii is very weak.

Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only 0.3%.
Let's compare them

PS3 has 8 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 50 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular DVD (4.7 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 130 $

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of doom" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is a uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games.

In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

Technically, the Nintendo Wii. Functionally, the PS3. Economically, the PS & PS2. Connectivitily, the X-Box 360 (Elite).

I used to love teh playstation when I was a kid. EVERYONE thought that nothing could get better than that. boy, can people be wrong. I still like the ps1 because it is very fun, but now I want a ps3 because of all the features and games coming out for it. xbox 360 is also a great console, but needs to get fixed. nintendo wii is alright, but it is not "8th generation". it's more like in the 6th generation because of the games and graphics. It all depends on your taste.

It all depends on what you like, the last 3 are next generation system so you have to get one of them. The 360 has the most great best sellers, however is more for mature gamers and who are hardcore should i say. The Wii is like an interactive thing, you get excercise i want to say? The ps3 is more about the blu-ray and as well as an entertainment system, when 360 provides that as well, ps3's games are mainly sports and not too great of sellers compared to 360. In my opinion, the 360 is the best out of those consoles.
