Do you think it is a good idea, if you have a dog, to bring it with you to college and live in an apartment? My golden retriever will be between 2 and 3 years by the time I leave for college, and I don't think I'll be able to leave them behind. What do you think? Do you regret bringing/not bringing your dog to college? Why or why not?

The dog is a little big for an apartment. Some dogs are good with it. 2-3 is a young dog and you know how much exercise it needs. A walk once a day will not do it. Perhaps a dog park will solve that problem. Also – most apartment owners won’t rent to people that have dogs, and not that size

If you can resolve the housing and exercise issue, then go for it.

I got my puppy the summer before I was due to finish my degree. I only needed a lecture class and a lab to graduate, so my schedule was pretty light when I went back to school with my dog.
I'm glad I waited until then because the semester beforehand was very time-consuming. Tuesdays and Thursdays that semester I had classes from 8am to 8pm, which would not be good for a dog.
I think whether it works or not depends on you, your dog, and your college plans. If you plan on partying a lot, then it might not be a good idea to take your dog. If you're planning on trying to take 18 credits a semester, then it's probably not a good idea. Are you going to work as well as go to classes? Look at how much time you're going to need to be away. Anything 10 hours or more and you might want to leave him with your parents.

My daughter is planning on taking her Border Collie and Jack Russell to college with her. Her dogs are such a huge part of her life she can't imagine being without them. If you can and you think you'll have time, take your dog with you!

Hey if you are living in an appartment, get your dog. Your dog will help ease the stress of your classes.
