Sin is the word from the past ignorant people use to explain "bad behavior" since of course they know nothing of more modern discoveries over the last two centuries of the mental and physical aspects of a person's psyche. These kind are too busy "committing" SIN, than to worry about talking about it, except in church and then it's about all those in the "rest of the world" who are the "sinners."

God gave to each and everyone of us our conscience. He did this for a reason, so that we would know right from wrong, When we talk about sin, your conscience is a reminder that you are not as perfect as you would like to think yourself as being, thus when confronted with the topic of sin, we have to admit, deep in side ourselves, when we take a look into the mirror of the Law, that we are sinners in need of the Savior. It is not a very comfortable feeling. so allot of people would much rather avoid it altogether.

Stephen: People do not like to talk about sin because it reflects on what us humans are all about in reality and it [sin] goes contrary against the grain of our ego. People do not want to hear the truth about him or her self but, how "wonderful" he or she is in spite of that hollow - empty feeling that there's got to be more to life than living for 80 years then, rotting in a grave forever. "Sin" identifies who and what we are. "Sin" tells us that we require redeeming and to admit we sin means, that we would be obligated to acknowledge NEED for that redeeming by a God - a "Savior". It won't be until this world collapses under the weight of its collective sins until we see that need - by then, all hell will be breaking loose! Be at peace though - God is sending Jesus Christ back to the earth to save it and the people, who are remaining alive.
P.S. Addressing the "shame" aspect of sin. There are two types of "shame". one is "unhealthy" shame and the other is termed "healthy" shame.
"Unhealthy" shame tells us that we ARE a mistake.
"Healthy" shame tells us that we MAKE mistakes.
God wants the "healthy" type because He designed us that way - this shows us we are not God and we need a spiritual relationship with Him. It is called : GRACE !!!

Sin has become intrinsically linked in the human collective unconscience with shame, and shame is the nastiest little emotion we experience. Twelve-step groups have the healthiest attitude towards sin out there - they call it "defects of character," and "wrongs." They handle it by doing fearless moral inventories and promptly admitting it to themselves, God, their sponsers, and/or another human being, and ask God to take it from them. Churches and other religious organizations have a lot to learn about managing sin from the 12-step groups.

Most people who believe in the concept of sin love talking about it. Just not their own sins.

Because it is a "feeling" of something unfixable about the Self which is ludicrous, but is experienced as embedded shame - the psychological glue that holds one in misery.
There is no unforgiveable error unless you're disabled to the point of being a sociopath.

People want their ears scratched, they dont want their toes steppd on, so to speak,
they are uncomfortable talking about something that may hit home w/them
Today, people are wanting a "feel good" religion.
