Because she was not teaching, she was dictating. A good teacher will also learn from their students not simply declare absolutes..
I think nukes are the darkest spot on human history, but I have all kinds of reasons why it should have been done. (Not to be repeated... ever!)
Your opinion did not fit in with her agenda and she did not like what she had to hear. She was also not prepared to be challenged. Good for you! You are an independant thinker. At least you were paying attention! Best of luck.
P.S: Hitler was naughty. So was Stalin. Do not, under any circumstances, emulate their behavior or you will be "sent from class".
I would report her.

because it is such a sensitive subject. you really shouldn't have stated that you'd do it today because japan is our allies today...however back in the 1940s we didn't really ahve any choice, and i will explain why. we dropped the nukes (2) on japan for 3 main reasons 1) because we were pissed about what they had done to us 2) because it was wtime for world war 2 to come to an end and the only real way to end the war immediately was to demonstrate a source of power that had never been seen before, we KNEW that it would end the war 3) we dropped the bombs because it saved AMERICAN lives. at that point in time we didn't really care about japanese lives, we were worried about americans. germany had already been defeated at that point and the US and russia were about to start a new "full blown" war with japan. however this world had already lost Millions of people fighting germany, so we didn't want to sacrifice any more american lives. the only way to prevent the war with japan was to cause them to surrender, which is why the determination to drop the bombs was made.
your teacher is probably an anti-war guru, which is not uncommon. it's a very controversial issue because hundreds of thousands of japanese civilians were instantly killed. chances are that your teacher was not alive during that time period, so he or she just knows what they've been told. they have no idea what it was actually like to make and live with those decisions....

Japan was a terrible nation for attacking Pearl Harbor. Japan was a horrible nation for attacking Burma, China, and the Philippines. Too bad we did not have nuclear bombs before over 5,000 U.S. Marines were killed in the battle of Iwo Jima.
You teacher is foolish and making decisions based on emotions and not reality. Ask you teacher if she knows of the Japanese Knights of Bushido using live Chinese and Burmese people for bayonet, sword, and rifle target practice.
Japan is now a friend, however if they had conquered the U.S.A. , the atrocities they would have committed here would be unspeakable. The A Bomb was the best solution to a terrible war.

It is funny how people today who have never had to deal with the fear of your own nation being beaten in a war, including the loss of life and liberty...wanting to play revisionist historians. In 1945 we were finally bombing Japan and had air superiority. The problem was that the Japanese would not surrender and were prepared to kill as many of the Allies as possible even in defeat. President Truman felt he had no other option than to use the most deadly force that we had. It was a different time and it was win at any cost. We had been attacked by Imperial Japan on dec. 7,1941. They killed over 2000 sleeping men in a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor. They went on to kill thousands of Allied troops and wanted to control the Pacific rim. Thank God we had the fortitude to win something that matters. War should not be a PC adventure...let our guys kill people and break things! The only way to peace is through victory. Tell your teacher to research what the Japanese did with the majority of their P.O.W.s. Most liberals are apologists for things they don't even understand. Fortunately they usually are the first to be trampled by the powers they are so quick to defend. I say if they can't get behind us at least get in front of the shooting.

Because your teacher has a closed mind, doesn't accept debate and freedom of speech when it goes against her opinion and because she has a deep seated guilt about being in the best country in the world, and not doing something to deserve to be here.

Because shes a "Open-Minded" Liberal. Don't expect a Liberal to understand that if Japan had a nuke they would also nuke America, but instead of making a free country they would make it part of their empire. Its better to give then to receive.

There were basically 4 options for Japan.
1) Invading, that would have led to millions of deaths for both sides and extended the war for years.
2) Gas attack killing and wounding millions of Japanese.
3) Blockaid and starving, leading to again millions of Japanese deaths.
4) Nuclear bombs leading to about 100,000 Japanese deaths.
Also... The Japanese actually had plans with Germany to use a "dirty bomb" on LA.
The nuclear question really came down to who built it first and used it first.

I would talk to the principal about this. You should have the right to express your opinion. You'll have plenty of opportunity in college to argue with professors. Since, in college is a place for thought.
