Can a dog be limping from sitting/laying down in one spot for a long time? I have a Shih-Tzu, 3 1/2 years old. This morning when I walked my dog, she was fine. But today, I was gone for the day, but when I came back (like 8 hours later), she was limping and her front leg seems to be the problem. She was in the house all day. Is this serious? Should I take her to the vet tomorrow, or is this an emergency? Thanks so much. Your help is really appreciated because I'm really worried.

If it is swollen or hot, is this something I should be really worried about (could it wait until tomorrow morning?). She won't let me touch it.

If she was laying wrong the limping would work itself out like you or I would. Is the leg swollen or hot? If not and she is bearing some weight (just limping) this can probably wait until tomorrow. Plan on taking her in on an empty stomach (just in case they want to sedate for xrays) by no food after midnight, if you do take her in. She may have just jumped off the couch wrong and sprained it. Worst case scenario is that she got her foot caught in something or something fell on her.... but as I said.. if she is bearing weight on it and there is no heat or swelling... call in the morning and make an appointment if she is still limping.... hope this helps

Yes, take her to the vet tomorrow. She may have hurt herself jumping down from a chair or couch. The vet may prescribe Rimadyl for pain. Also, she may be developing arthritis, which is common in many dogs and she may be getting stiff after laying around all day. She probably slept most of the day while you were gone. Regular exercise helps, just walking her a little bit each day when you come in so her muscle can warm up. If you have checked her pad and there is nothing in it like a sticker, more than likely her muscle is sore. This is not an emergency tonight, but definitely take her in tomorrow. Also, if she sleeps on a couch or chair, you may want to get pet stairs so she won't have to jump down. It's not the jumping up that usually hurts, but the jumping down from a chair that hurts them, especially if you have hard floors.

Yes a dog can be limping from sitting/laying down in one spot for long time, you only see that in old dogs I would check her paw see if she got something stuck in it.If you can`t find anything visable to cause her to limp keep a good eye on her tonight and take to the vet in the morning.

If it doesnt go away within 30 min. i would def. take her to the vet. but if i seems like it gets better, it might just be a cramp.

It's possible she just strained a tendon or pulled a muscle. We do it all the time and so do they. Just take it easy when you play with her for a while.

You should bring her to the vet ASAP. You never know what could've happened when you were away.
