I have the plainest, beige ugly old carpet in my apartment. And I want to do something to conceal it. Would it be tacky to get a rug, like say 5x7, to cover some of it up? I'm not sure if that's weird or not.

If you have a berber carpet then you can get away with a rug, but still a stretch. Apartments are hard, you have to find a way to make the space yours without changing the bones of the place. Accent rugs in a apartment are great- I would try to find some more interesting pieces maybe in garage sales or antique stores.

I agree with everyone; since you live in an apartment and the carpet is a neutral color, an accent rug really shouldn't be a big deal at all. If I walked into someone's apartment and I saw a rug on the carpet I wouldn't even think twice about it...and anyone who does is thinking too much anyway, lol.

Nah, it's not weird.
Actually, the bigger the rug the better, to cover as much carpet as possible and leave a sort of "border" around the rug.
It can change the whole tone of the room. Have fun with it!

It's a bit tacky. But, a lot of people do it. In an apartment it's understandable since you don't always like what you are given in that case. It will cause more wear on the carpet underneath.

I don*t think it is tacky at all; I have seen several places with both.
I*m thinking about doing it my self since the wall to wall carpet , green shag,,in our family room gets all the traffic it is looking pretty shabby, but cannot afford new so am thinking about putting a 9x12 solid green rug over it (I already have it from another room)Hey , it is your apt do what you want.

I have it in my gameroom and it doesn't look tacky at all. Since the carpet has plain and light color and the rug has patterns and stronger colors, they should go well together.

It matters on how cute the rug is, how it ties into the rest of your furniture, and your idea for what you want. :)
