Yes, I would say that starting a Church is a Lucrative Business, and the ones who benefits from them is the Leaders who run them. I am a Southern baptist, and I used to attend Church regularly, and would give Money every Sunday, to the offering, I did not give any 10% of what I earned because I did not work, only my Husband did, and he is a Catholic, by name only, since he does not attend Church. Some 10 years ago, the elders of the Church found out that the money that was collected from the offering started disappearing, and the Treasurer could not account for the Money missing, so in time they found out that the treasurer was pocketing the money and could not give a reasonable explanation of why, we were missing the money, for me and my Kids that was something we found blasphemous to our Lord. We give to the offering because from that money collected, the bills get paid and the necessities, for the Church, come out of the offering, and to find out that one of our own, was benefitting from the money was something we found dissapointing. Where is the faith from those people that find out that running a Church, is easy money for them. I do not believe the Lord would approve that we collect Money for the Church, Jesus rode on a Donkey, and walked to preach the word of God, and above all else does the word of God, say that he asked his People for Money? So why do the church Leaders think they are unique, when they tell people from the congregation for more Money. This is something to think about. Thanks.

Yes they have, they need this to be investigated by the police, along with the disappearance of Madeleine. It was too suspicious, setting up a business a few days their daughter went missing, anyone can see through it, you don't have to be blind. Why is it then, no other parents and families have setup such funds for their missing child. (FACT) I was at the Southport Airshow this weekend, and during lulls in the entertainment I thought that I would just have a look at how many people were wearing the green/yellow bracelets that have been sold to promote the Madeleine cause. I did not see ONE person wearing a bracelet, there was not ONE poster anywhere. Tonight in Tesco I did the same thing while waiting in a queue, again not one person was wearing the bracelet. The point I am trying to make is that all the merchandise that has been sold to bolster the fund is not having the effect that it was meant for i.e. keep Madeleine's disappearance in everyone's thoughts, as if all the bracelets have been put into drawers and are not being worn what was the point? If Madeleine was adbucted, they made it very easy as the pattern of the group was set very early on, and it could only take seconds for someone to enter an open apartment, go into the bedroom and take a sleeping child, leave through the patio doors down the steps and away, leaving very little foresic evidence. The McCanns should shut up the merchandise shop, as it is not helping (apart from making lots of money) and leave the people who know what they are doing to get on with searching for their daughter.

The Vatican's wealth has been accumulating over centuries, and the irony is, being a non-profit, there's not much they can do with it.

The most lucrative business is one that solves the most and biggest problems society faces. There's always money to be made in promising people "everything is going to be alright", but you have to be pretty crafty and clever to become the next Benny Hinn.

I think you'd be better off trying to find a way to build cars that don't run on gasoline.

I laughed when I read the question. Yes, it is a most lucrative business.

I watch the tv evangelists, and they are so well-groomed, manicured, the whitest of teeth, and wear the best of clothing. The program will always end with a cry for money.

I agree, even 10% of their riches would be an enormous amount of money. This would most definitely help many, many who are in need.

My mother used to say "Geri, if you want to make millions there are three ways to do it. 1. start a new religion and build the church. 2. Publish a cook book. 3. Invent something that has to do with cats and dogs.

Well.........I did not do any of the above.
But it would appear that all religions are extremely lucrative...ALL the keepers of the gates do very well. It's called keeping your believers believing they can buy their way into heaven....or I should say, it is a form of power. We place way too much idle worship on those that we deem are "in the know" as to what God is doing, saying and thinking.

I think many a greed & hidden agenda is masked by some churches. I have seen preachers on TV that the whole of their "mission" is why you should give money & how God will take you out of poverty by giving the little you have to them. While I do believe the principal of giving, there are other ways to give when you can not feed your family. Yet, I do not want to be too closed minded, I have seen a few, & sadly just a few, who are genuine in their belief system & you can see the lack of glitz in their presentation. It seems that their will always be genuine & greedy people who will abuse any system to abuse others for their own purposes.

Oh it could be! Not because they seem Godly in nature doesn't mean they are NOT human anymore. They can still sin like all of us. And they're more likely to get tempted if they lack the true spirit of faith. It's easier for them to get fundings and charities at the expense of the blindly innocent believers. This is in fact a high profile fraud which defies the church they've been sworn into. It's totally against their teachings of honesty, humility and self-humbleness. But we can be sure that all their intentions, good or abusive, are well known to The Great One who has put them in their services,..and to whom, someday, they will profess all their gains.

Either that or a McDonald's franchise. Recently there was a report in the Wall Street Journal that said economic experts were confounded by the increase of profits gained from McDonald's franchises.

Not all churches succumb to the greed of man's inhumanity, but I am also very leary of politics being discussed from the pulpit for obvious reasons. I would refuse to be a part of a church that endorses candidates or collects funds or participates in political campaigns of all kinds, and that goes for "profit".

God sent His son for our salvation--not organized religion.

Many people in history have fought against this spiritual corruption, only to fall into the temptation in the end and start their own religion business. I fully expect the "Church of Atheism" to show up anytime now.
