Whatever you chose to believe or are instructed by your religion should direct you regarding what in entertainment is sinful. The rule would usually be if it makes you wonder, don't do it, but I think that too many ppl are controlled by other ppl with guilt and never get to make their own minds up. Never get to grow. So, it is a personal opinion and you have to have yours. No one can say what is or is not unless you are involved in a religious movement that controls you. Then, I am sorry for you all the way around.

It's like with anything else, the purpose in which it is used creates the sin. If you are looking at a magazine and lusting after someone in the magazine then you have taken the magazine outside of its purpose. Then on the other hand, there are certain things that just should not be consumed by God's people such as porn. Look at it like this. If you have to sneak to do it, then don't. If you have a good conscious about it and have no questions about it, then MAYBE it is ok. I say maybe because there is a percentage of the population that can't sanely decipher right from wrong.
In everything that you do, try to make the best decision. A few years ago the best saying came forth. WWJD. Ask yourself what would Jesus Do in this situation. Would he watch this or read this?
Christians can have a good life and have a lot of fun. It is not so uptight as people try to make it out to be. Jesus said "I come so that you may have life and have it more abundantly."
I hope that I have positively enlightened you.
Be blessed of the Lord.

entertainment is by its nature a diversion. The diversion can be a good one or a bad one.
It must be judged by its nature and the desired effect on the person so entertained. If the desired effect is to create anger, hate and other negative emotions, then it is sinful.
If the effect is merely to tell a story, knowing that onlly the one seeing it will know how they will be effected then I would say it is nuetral, it is okay, not a sin. The one watching it is the one who would sin by the reaction they make. The average joe on the street might think he just kissed his money away while an idiot might think this was grounds to do something wrong.
If the effect is to create a positive effect, laughter, or something which is good, then no.
The can of worms you opened is deep. People will claim that watching a movie is sinful. For them it is a sin. For others who are not weak in their relationship with the LORD God, it is not a sin, and God would not hold them accountable for a sin as the first group would wrongly think that he would do.
While it is a subjective answer, it is also definative, but my own feelings are few are objective enough to discern the difference.

The word "sin" in the New Testament of the Bible comes from a Greek word that has a military relationship. It is used to describe when an archer missed the very (and perfect) center of the target (bull's eye). A contemporary translation of "sin" is "missing the mark". The issue is not whether entertainment in and of itself is sinful - but does something we read or watch cause us to sin. Does it cause us to "miss the mark" or fall short of what God desires for us?
The Apostle Paul used the subjects of Agriculture, Anatomy, Architecture, as well as Athletics to convey spiritual principles. The Athenian Games in ancient Greece were in fact entertaining. They are where our Olympics come from.
Enjoy life! Just avoid the "garbage" that can be found in the areas you mentioned. An old Proverb states "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he". As with computers "Garbage in = garbage out". Select those venues of quality that energize, grow, and yes, entertain you in a positive and productive way.

Toughy..... because "sin" is defined in different ways by different people. If you are a Christian than yes and no. Entertainment in general...like "to be entertained" is not a sin. Unfortunatly, most of the stuff you will see on tv, magazines, music can be sinful.
I think you should decide for yourself though.

No! Entertainment in general is a waste of time, but for most people it is not a sin.
It all depends on what the nature of the entertainment is will determine if it is "sin" or not.

Entertainment is not sin, but the type of entertainment one engages in can be sinful. Whether the content of the entertainment is sinful, or the perception of the beholder toward the entainment is actually sinful is determined by factor not found here...take care...

I don't believe in the concept of sin.
I think you have a sense of responsibility and can differentiate between programming you consider enjoyable and not.
But speaking personally, I think that magazines, movies, television, and music are among the best (and most popular) forms of artistic expression in the world. If you deny them, then life may seem less rich.
The religious used to do the same with books, banning the works of Voltaire and other glorious books that improved human understanding, but went against the dogma of the day. To sweep out a whole category of artistic expression, practiced by millions of people by calling it "sin," seems very close-minded to me. I don't enjoy many television shows, either, but I'm not going to call them evil.

I would hesitate to be the judge of that. In my own life if I were to get too involved in any form of entertainment at the expense of spending time with what is really important, then I would consider it a personal sin.

No, not all entertainment is sin. Singing and dancing and all those things you listed above can all be good sources of entertainment if it is tasteful and doesn't defile God. Heck, even sex isn't sinful. Sex is meant to be a beautiful thing. Humans make it disgusting.
