I think if you do it, you should make it look as completely different as possible. If you try and match, it never will...it'll just make it very obvious they don't match and look even worse.

They will most likely not look the same even if they are color matched. For resale (depending on the market) laminate can be considered cheap so be careful if your housing market is one where this is the case. I was looking at a house a year or so ago where they had put laminate in one room of the first floor where hardwood had been in the rest, and it looked horrible.

Joining laminate to hardwood MIGHT be OK but be careful. If you try to match them, for sure it will never match. If they look a lot different it can be ok. I prefer to see hardwood meet carpet or lino. Not a big fan of laminate floors unless they are in a budget job.

It'll look fine. We have hardwood floors in the dining and living rooms, and slate colored "tile" linoleum floors in the kitchen and it looks great. Just don't get an super eye-catching or bold color for the linoleum and it'll work.
