Maybe I should ask this: Jesus drank, so is it okay for you to drink, and so do you? If not, why not?

I don't know, but if one more person asks this question, there will be a lot of people on R&S drinking too.

There is nothing wrong with drinking as long as it is not done in excess.

Nowhere in the Bible is the use of alcoholic beverages prohibited. If it were sinful, would Jesus have changed water into wine at Cana (John 2:1-11)? Jesus drank wine and was falsely accused of being a drunkard (Matthew 11:19).

The drinking of alcoholic beverages is nothing more than making use of what God has provided and is not a sinful act. In fact, the Bible says
"He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart." (Psalm 104:14-15, KJV)
"Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities." (1 Timothy 5:23, KJV)

Notice that Holy Scripture says "a little wine," not copious quantities. Use of any alcoholic beverage to the point of becoming intoxicated is a misuse of God's gift and is a sinful act. Throughout the Bible there is a clear distinction made between the use of alcohol and the abuse of alcohol (Ephesians 5:18 & Proverbs 20:1 for example).

Chris,
The alcohol of that time was not very strong. HE did so for a "Jewish Wedding". We are told as Christians it is not good for a person to "become drunk". We are also to Teach the gospel Matt 28:18-20) and can not do so if our name is slurred by being seen drinking or coming from such places. GOD expects HIS Children to be on a higher level than that. I truly believe casual drinking of alcohol is not wrong. However you will find drunkenness condemned in the Bible. Alcohol is preached against because of how destructive it is in todays society. It is so destructive and ruins so many lives.

Ross - if you happen to read this Jesus said He drank.

Matthew 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Mat 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Hahaha! I love the add. details. But I think they are more concerned about people becoming alcoholics and ruining their lives. But on the other hand why would it matter. I mean, according to the dogma Jesus saves people no matter what condition their life is...right? So I say, as long as you say the forgiveness prayer of a sinner before you decay into the ground, go and **** around all ya want cuz you're golden.

Welch wasn't born yet stupid. and actually, the word for wine includes a plethra of beverages that include grapes. potentially, it could have been non-alcoholic grapejuice with some added ingredients, and without much water.

secondly, Jesus wasn't a drunkard. alcohol consuption is unwise the Bible teaches. it's best to stay away from it. is it sinful to take? no, not really. is it sinful to get drunk? definitely. alcohol has some medicinal properties, so getting rid of it would be unwise.

First of all they shouldn't preach AGAINST ALCOHOL TO BEGIN WITH...and when they do just politely say.."well, Jesus drank, so i feel it is alright to drink socially"...and walk away...otherwise it will just GO ON AND on...I hope i have helped!!!...because it sounds like you would NOT make GOOD FRIENDS ANYWAY, but i could be wrong????..I do not know enough about the situation...sorry!

now when in the world have I ever preached against alcohol? I think you might be confused. In the Bible it says to not drink TOO MUCH. Obviously it doesn't say not to drink at all, because then Jesus would be a hypocrite. which he is not.

Jesus only drank wine - not Rum, Vodka or Scotch.

The early Christians gave grain (as a tithe) to the priests to make the hard stuff.

I am a Christian and I do not preach against alcohol. What I do preach against is drunkenness and when you let alcohol control you.

Yes, the wine was wine and Jesus drank wine.

Jesus wasn't a drunk. The bible clearly says getting drunk is a sin.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10:
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Numbers 6:2-3: "And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD: He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried."
