there is this guy that I like at school and we are friends. We talk a lot and joke around often. lately he has been talking to me more. He will sometimes sit with me and lunch and often playfully jokes about us being together. he asked me if I was gong to formal and I said yes and then he asked if anyone asked me and I said no and he said that if he were going that he would take me(jokingly). We got assigned seats in class and he was like don't move me away from my love(jokingly). We were talking about my old cheerleading days and he was like let me guess you dated a quarterback (he's a quarterback) and my other friend(also his friend) jokingly was like yeah he wants you! He taught me a handshake and everyday he asks me to do the handshake until I do it. I was mad at him the other day and I told him to go do the handshake with my bro instead(his friend too) and he was like no it's our handshake. I like to joke but I'm starting to think he really does think of us as a joke.

Sounds more like he thought you were fun, but that might be changing. And why don't you two seriously talk about going to formal together. And if keeps asking you to do the handshake until you do it, why not just do it when you first get up to him so he doesn't even have to ask. Or do it the first time he asks

You could have your friend or your brother ask him if he likes you. If you can, ask him why he does things that make you think he likes you but the joking make you think otherwise and if he likes you and wants to go out with you, he should say so without joking about it.
I believe he jokes all the time because he isn't sure of what you feel for him. It's like a test to see where you're at. When he mentioned the formal you should have asked if he was asking you out or playing. I think he was asking in a joking way because he thought you would say no. Same with the quaterback thing, testing to see what your response would be.

You don't mention your age, but from where I sit, it seems the guy really does like you. He, like many young men are often confused about how far to take jokes and when the line has been stretched and/or crossed. Why did you get mad at him? Perhaps he is a little too immature for you. If that's the case - just be open and honest with him. He might be 'feeling you out' to see if you really will go out with him. Games are so hard to play at this age. Unfortunately, they continue well into my age group (smile). Just be honest with him and ask him to be honest with you.

Very few guys of any age spend that much time, effort, and attention on a girl they're not romantically interested in. Be sweet to him and let him know you like him too--he obviously isn't sure how you feel.
Guys joke because they're afraid of being vulnerable--if it turns out you're not into them, they can laugh it off, and not be publicly humiliated.
I had a boyfriend who absolutely could NOT have a serious conversation with me, ever. He was absolutely in love with me, but everything had to be a joke, always, when we were together. The relationship survived because we wrote each other letters.

Me and my boyfriend kind of got together the same way. Some guys dont know to really express how they feel so they joke about it but it sounds like he really likes you. It may be kind of bold but you can always find out by asking him out.

hmmm seems like he likes u but his afraid hez going to get rejected and doesn't want to ruin ure friendship. if he asked u if anybody asked u to formal jokingly he probably does like u and if u like somebody u'd want to kno who they were going with rite? but he said it jokingly so he was trying not to be obvious. and whenever he teases u guys about being together hez probably trying to see ure reaction.

this is interesting. from what i read it honestly seems like he really digs you. it's hard to tell on what you wrote alone though. look for signs. noticce the way he looks at you. notice if his pupils dilate whenever he talks to you or not. take notice of his posture as well. if he seems comfortable, than he most likely is comfortable with you. as far waht you wrote it seems like a classical tease approach. he's trying to win you over with his humor. it seems like he is interested though.

he doesnt think of you as a joke.
thats just his way of showing that he likes you.
trust me.
ive had it hppen to me before.
and i didnt go out with him.
now he has a gf and i like him.
you two should go out.

I think maybe he may be a nice guy, but he sound a little inmature maybe. But that does not make him a bad guy! He may think of you has one of the guys too!
