Oh my goodness. Listen. I am Peruvian and almost my whole family enjoys a traditional dish of Cuy (Guinea pig). These animals are raised for that purpose only. I personally dislike this tradition, but I do respect it because it is something that is done there and I can't change hundreds of years of tradition on dislike alone.
On the other hand, we live in the United States, and in here these furry little wonders are raised to be our beloved pets. We must take care of them as we would with a puppy or a kitten. I know they are the same animal whether you are in Peru or the U.S.A. but you would not just pick up your hammie or guinea pig from it's cage and eat it. It is a different culture and we need to respect that.

Eating them are ok in Peru (culture respect) but I would say - put this into food section for special food sagement.

Not everyone likes to read about guinea pigs being treated as food in puinea pig PETS section. It is offensive to most guinea pigs' owners.

I hope you understand from pet owner's point of view.

The peruvians have long hair so it takes longer to prepare them. :(.
HAHAHA
sorry. This is not funny. Not at all. I shoudl be making you feel bad, but I see your poitn. Too many people worship guinea pigs and can't imagine their origional purpose. Although this is offensive to some people it shouldn't be; you are making fun of their culture, but when they recoil, they are despising yours, and that's even worse, even if it IS your fault.

Whilst I do not agree, and like the fact that people eat guinea pigs, as to me they are beautiful creatures who have such unique and lovely personalities. To others it is culture, and we have to respect that.

In American, guinea pigs are pets. Do not even think of eating them. If you want to live in a third world country, get moving, but don't tell us normal people about it. Dork.

Personally, I view them as pets as that is the way I have been raised. I have also been exposed to other cultures where this is perfectly acceptible behaviour. Either way, please keep in mind that children often use this forum to ask questions concerning their pet guinea pigs and I hope it is not your intention to upset them.

Just another kid asking, what he thinks, is a funny question. And u wonder why some of us keep asking for separate forums, one for kiddies and one for adults.
