firearms and guns is a little redundant...but -
like them just fine, like any tool.
They perform a specific set of jobs for me.

I started out with guns on the farm. They were tools we used to feed our family. My Dad always made a big thing at the table that the family was eating good because his son was a good shot and brought home the meat. I loved the pride I had in helping my family. Later on I found that the guns could be used to enjoy as a sport and I wrecked havoc on our trash dump leaving no empty can unperforated. Then I joined The Army and they gave me all kinds of guns to shoot and free ammo. I was in 7th heaven. As I practiced and worked hard at it, I became a expert and was asked to join the US Army pistol team. Now I was really up there and not only did they give us some of the finest guns made but flew us around the country to shoot in matches everywhere. And put us up in nice hotels and fed us good meals. And all this just for us to shoot their guns. And the paid us to do it too. What a deal! After retirement from the Army I opened my own gun store and decided this was my life and my work. And I have never regreted it.

As far back as I can remember I was shooting guns with my father. Then I joined the Army and I got to use more guns and explosives.I don't know why but shooting guns makes me feel good I almost get a little rush from pulling the trigger and hearing the bang. And I am obsessed with guns and stock piling ammo for a rainy day.

Me personally, I like breaking stuff. I mean Iike the idea of bullets whacking into things. Even if its not hunting I like blasting rocks and bricks at quarries.
I think most of us liking weapons is just the natural predators urge to develope better ways to take game.
Hunting for food is the main reason animals hunt but not the only motivating urge when they do. They also enjoy it, just like when they enjoy play fighting and running around.
It is a powerful rush for both animals and humans to hunt other things.
The reason is hunger itself is not a good enough motivation to hunt. If animals hunted driven only by hunger they would be too desperate and make too many mistakes.
In short they would be thinking with their stomachs rather than their heads.About eating rather than killing.
The urge to hunt for the sake of it is mother natures way of helping us get the job done so we can eat.
Whether or not we need food to hunt this secondary instinct is still strong with us.
Since it as just as old as the instinct to eat.

I guess in my case it started out as a hobby as a teenager who loved the outdoors and hunting...Then went little "nuclear", and became not only a hobby, but a way to make and honest living, combining the best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned.... Always changing, new firearms, calibers, endless technology, and a constant learning process. I don't think it could get any better than this.........

Generally it is past on from one generation to the next, as it was to me by my Father who was an avid Hunter & Shooter & Sportsman.* I have no regrets & I am happy that he introduced me to Guns & Hunting.*

I actually don't like weapons - having seen how they destroy directly - they were just the tools of my trade.
The only reason I have learned so much about them is that it was my responsibility as an Infantryman.
You would never let a mechanic work on your car if he did not know the difference between a screwdriver and a wrench after all.
That does not mean I am not going to have a shotgun and .45 in my house, just regretful it is necessary.
To those giving down checks - if you have never seen combat, you have NO right to judge me.
The point you obviously missed is that I would prefer a world where the need to arm oneself is not necessary.
I STILL have a rifle . . .

Every patriotic loyal american supports our bill of rights; if you let one of them fall then the rest are history and we will be subjects and slaves to whatever dictator comes along.
