never get charged for not having the correct paperwork e.g.valid drivers license, social security, plates, insurance, etc...if they are already in the system, why don't they get processed for being here illegally?

slabbered: why would that stop them from holding the offender while contacting the proper official....if a local cop found a meth lab and couldn't handle it, he would still hold the person while contacting the drug enforcement agency

O.k. I understand that we can't deport, but if I (as an american) were arrested in Mexico, they wouldn't process me and then send me on my way, they would hold me and contact the u.s. right? OG, I definitely agree with you (probably more than I would like too:(

One day you will figure out that the whole immigration thing is nothing more than a smoke screen to divert attention from the dwindling republican party. Millions have been wasted on a virtual border wall that doesnt work, not one brick has been laid to form a physical barrier at the border. Politicians are in bed with the corporations and big businesses who support the hiring of illegals.

I don't get it either. From the local governments to the highest of offices, you see problems with enforcing the law. There are more people feeling sorry for people who are breaking the law than I can believe. If you or I broke the law, we would be charged and would be punished. Not so in these instances. You see more illegals driving without driver's licenses and having accidents with no insurance, you see fake ID's being sold to them so they can continue on with jobs and such. They are paid and don't pay taxes, get free health care and assistance and now many officials holding office in our towns, state and Country are ready to vote to give them driver's licenses and social security benefits without their papers. They have more rights to free services than the citizens of our own County and I do resent it. They get away with so much and no one seems to care. It is maddening. If they want to apply to come here and do it legally, I do not have a problem but allowing them to come here, receive benefits for which we are all paying and for which we are having our taxes raised, rules changed and exceptions allowed, then I am not going to be happy. Someone is going to have to enforce laws on the book; get the borders sealed and start doing things that need doing to protect our Country from the downfall which is already taking place. When you vote, be sure who you are voting for and what their thoughts are about handling the problem with illegal immigration. This is a very important issue and should not be overlooked. This begins from your own town government right up to the White House.

My county, Pr.Wm. county of VA, has recently passed some rules describing when our county police officers should check a person's immigration status. I read the rules, but can't quote them. They seemed rather reasonable to me, after all you can't check everyone's immigration status that you have contact with and only checking hispanic people would rightfully draw a discrimination law suit, since there are so many legal hispanic citizens in our county.
I was driving through Manassas today and drove past a festival which I was not aware of before. The banner read Mexico Linda (Pretty Mexico). The car in front of me had a vanity tag, Mex Pwr.
I suspect the festival was trying to drum up support for activists to oppose our county's new rules for police officers. The big organization opposing the county is Mexicans without borders. That is right, it is too bizarre for me to make that up!

Immigration Laws are enforced by the federal government.
In the short term illegal immigrants pay into the Social Security system which is almost bankrupt.

They also provide recruits for the military.

The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, is part of the stalled package of proposals that many in Congress are seeking to resurrect. The proposal, applicable to an estimated 750,000 undocumented residents of military age, stipulates that those who arrived in the United States before age 16, graduated from high school, and meet other qualifications could immediately enter the path to citizenship in exchange for at least two years' service in the armed forces.

But not all of them pay taxes.

Illegal Immigration negatively affects American Workers, the Unemployed, and Unions.
It also hurts the Environment by increasing Urban Sprawl.

Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Hunter have the most conservative voting records on immigration.

Of these three, Ron Paul has the best chance of winning the Primary election.
Paul's campaign has almost 5 times as much money to spend as Tancredo.

Ron Paul has stated that he wants very strong borders and he was appalled that our government had taken border guards off of our borders to send them to Iraq.

This is his six point plan:
Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.

It is a case of law enforcement failing to do their jobs. Whether it is intentional or not I will not say. But when found in violation of the law all applicable charges should be filed.

Because the local govt (city, county, state) is explicitly prohibited from enforcing federal immigration laws.
If you want to change that -- then change the federal laws to allow cities and states to enforce federal immigration laws.
But until and unless that gets changed -- it is illegal for the city or state to attempt to do so -- that's why.

Good question! I think the reason is because they can't deport them themselves and there is no one to give them to.
