He says he's nt ready for anything serious but he still wants to hangout. I understand he's not intrested in being serious with me, but why would he still say he wants to hangout?

That is not keeping you hanging, it is your choice if you want to hangout with him. He isn't interested in relationship he's probably only interested in one thing and I would move along.

Many reasons diff. with each situation and person .
Could be he likes your friendship, or wants the company as not to be lonely or likes one of your friends and would like to get to her through your friendship.
Or even lower he likes the material perks you might have like.. car for transportation, or money if you spend it on him, or just the self esteem or ego boost because he knows you like him and suck up to him making him feel bigger.
Or the lowest he is with another person and is not happy with her but you aren't his cup of tea either some people will try to keep two non compatible people in their life to try to fill the void they are feeling in which is totally selfish and UNfair to all including himself and will not fill the void either but they don't know what to do as people are un schooled in feelings and life situations. Most learn from experience.
But like I say I don't know this guy and his situation I would have to have a lot more info on him to try to help you understand where he's coming from in his request for further friendship from you.
Also I was reading a few other answers and one person says men are hunters well she has just gotten hurt in the quest we all go through and that is lifes journey hurting is part of the learning process as with anything you do.
If your computer breaks do you say computer companies all suck and they are built to break so they can sell more computer companies are evil.
Or do you say oh that computer company did not test their product so I will look for a different company to do future business with next time.
Being a positive thinker will always make you happier.

In a nutshell,....he's a hunter and females are the game. Men are like that - they are often unable to make up their minds about women and would rather have a nice little lady cub in the bushes, while he is in pursuit of another on the other side of the tree. Depending upon who 'seems' to like the big cat's muscles and teeth and is in a hurry to bed him down or give him the little rats and mice that you catch, his decision can weigh in the balance until he is full and satisfied.
Now - you have to decide if you're going to be the cub in the bushes waiting for 'your turn' or are you out on the desert sand strutting proud and getting your own share of looks from other big cats.....

Be strong. ! Turn the other way. You are really letting him have some control... I've been through it...A man knows what he wants. If he has you on a string. Cut the string. God will bless you with someone that appreciates you. I'm sure just like a lot of us....you will have to go through something with that man to figure it out.......if you can save some heartbreak for yourself......pray about it and give it to God. .....trust me he has all the answers.

Everyone needs a friend. Maybe he does want to be serious but is afraid to tell you. Either way, it's always nice to have someone to hang out with. No one wants to be lonely.

He wants to have a "no strings attached" sort of relationship. He can still have you emotionally as a girlfriend, but he doesnt want to be in a relationship.

cos he's a man!! they do anything for an easy life play hard to get and don't let him get what he wants all the time I'll bet he'll be more serious then!

Not all guys are like this but it's been my experience that the ones who are don't want to be alone and they want a female companion. This includes sex.

1. Guys only keep girls hanging if the girls allow it.
2. Usually, it means you're "Plan B" in case "Plan A" doesn't work out.
