Check with the Chamber of Commerce, they could not only tell you where to go for your particular interests, but should be able to give you a schedule of events. In Anaheim they have Disneyland. The chamber can also direct you to motels and hotels in any budget range. More specifics can get you better answers.

you can go to many places if you drive yourself ( i advise you if you're not)...you can go to many art galleries, museums, mountains ( it's snowing, i think) beaches, ( still pretty hot weather)...or you can go to all the amusements parks like knotts's berry farm (or knotts scary farm for the Halloween thing they do, six flags ( if you're an adrenaline junkie) or Disneyland if you have kids..
there's also may "Little" towns like little Tokyo, Chinatown, filipinotown, little India...you can try many different restaurants from different ethnicities around here
there are alot of places you can stay at that is cheap and if you can you can go to las vegas which is only a few hours away by driving ^^

Los Angeles is huge. If you could give an idea of the general area you'll be in, it would be helpful.
