i recently got two 9 week old female rats (they were 8 1/2 weeks when i got them) for my 12th birthday. mines name is Ozzy (after ozzy osbourne) because i had a male rat named ozzy and the next day i found out he had mites so i carried on the name. i want to know how i can teach her her name, ive tried calling her with a treat in my hands which sometimes works, and when i hold her ill say "hi ozzy!" softly and i say hi ozzy when i pass her cage. are there any other ways that i can teach her? how old should she be before i bathe her and clip her nails? thanks alot!

Just keep using her name whenever you talk to her & she'll learn it. Ozzy won't need a bath unless she gets dirty, they usually do a really good job keeping themselves clean. I bathe our boys more often than our girls b/c our boys just seem to get funky every few weeks. Mostly I just give the girls a tail wash when they need it.
Ozzy is pretty young & her toes must be *tiny* so I wouldn't try to trim her nails right now. They'd be really hard to see well & she'll probably be really squirmy, even if you have someone helping you.

Sounds like what your doing is great, I would suggest the same...giving her a treat calling her by name so when she comes to the treat she is hearing her name and associates her name with treats...I have 2 rats as well. As far as bathing and trimming nails, bath her whenever you think she needs a bath if she is a little smelly..nail trimming just keep an eye on them and snip the very tips off when they get to scratchy on you. I have never given my females a bath they never get smelly, they seem very clean. I had males once and they stunk no matter how clean you kept them and their cage.

beleav me this takes time my 2 rats are steller and buddy you have to have a difrant tone for each name and just by repeting it and treating it when it comes to you.

rats love to swim but i found out if you introdice them to water later on in life the are petrofide of it cus they hav never seen it! as babys u should put the in luke warm water about as deep as there belly

to clip there nails put rough thigs in the cage the bark and toys you cet from the pet shop the dont sit still long enough to clip them

make sure that they have something to bite a gnore no because there teeth dont stop growing
