The pastor can't perform my sister's wedding in two weeks, so I thought about getting ordained through an online service. Exactly how legal/legitimate are these certifications?

The guy who married us became an ordained minister with Universal Life Church just to marry us! Some states require they register with the state, but they are legally able to marry you as long as they do what the law requires. Their website states as such... go check it out.

I am ordained through Rose ministries in Las Veags. I am legal in all 50 states, provided I follow the local laws and regulations.
I became ordained on line and opened my own business.

I have no idea how legit they are but I have a friend that got ordained thru the interet. She was laid up at home with a broken ankle so she decided to become ordained. Last time I saw her she said she could legally marry me and my fiance.

Yes, I've been ordained a reverend online, but then - so has my cat! It has no validity - you have to check with your state or provincial laws to see what is required of a person before they can perform a ceremony.

Yes I am. The universal life church ordination should be valid in all states. BUT - they are having problems with a church that used to be affiliated. If you use that one, ULC won't honor the ordination. Use this website: http://www.ulcseminary.org/

Also, check with the local jurisdiction where the wedding will be, and make sure you don't need to file anything.
