The Episcopal Church was formed when the Revolutionary War won our independence from England. Prior to that it was part of the Church of England.

Their worship is very Catholic, but they do not acknowledge the Pope. As an example, they make the sign of the cross at the mention of the Trinity. But they touch shoulders the opposite of the Catholic Church.

They still have a connection to the Mother Church in England. However that connection is in jeopardy because of their recently consecrating an openly homosexual man to the Episcopacy. They recently have been in the news because some of their own churches have broken from the American connection and are seeking Episcopal leadership from Africa. Their churches run from very Orthodox to very Liberal on social issues.

It includes 108 dioceses in the United States, the US Virgin Islands, Haiti, Taiwan, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Honduras, and has an extra-provincial relationship with the dioceses of Puerto Rico and Venezuela. It is sometimes known as the Episcopal Church in the USA, abbreviated ECUSA.

It is also called the Anglican Church. It was founded bu King Henry VIII when he broke with the Catholic Church. It is very similar to Roman Catholicism -- except that they do not accept the primacy of the Pope.
