If you are married it is not a sin.
If you are not married it is a sin.
Sex itself is NOT a sin.. even for Catholics.
The sin comes in when you use sex in a manner for which it was not intended. You know those tags you see on things that say "It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with it's lableing"? There was on of those on the fertelizer I put on the lawn last week.
Well if you use the fertalizer in the right way... to make the lawn green... it's a good thing all around.
If you use the fertalizer in the wrong way... say to make a bomb that blows up a federal building and takes out a day care center... like the guys in Oklahoma City did... well thats not a good thing.
Sex is pretty much the same... use it within marriage and you are cool... start using it outside of a marriage and you run into problems... ie sin.

According to the Catholic religion, it is a sin unless you're married.

It's not a "sin" as such. Lust is a sin. Sex is in the context of marriage (where obviously it's ok to have sex). But most catholics I know are pretty liberal about it. Of course, I do live in Europe....

That would be ridiculous. Are you supposed to die a virgin, then? We'd go extinct pretty quickly if we followed that rule.
Anyway, according to Catholics, you need to be married to have sex. But that's a misinterpretation of the Bible.

Yes it is a sin. While not a cardinal sin, most definitely still a sin. Lust is a sin as well as adultery (sex without marriage) Having sex with someone who is not your husband but is someone elses is also coventry, another sin.

Only in the context of holy matrimony. But even if you "do it" the first time in marriage, it's considered pure and not a loss of virginity. Virginity is more of a state of mind and it doesn't necessarily have to relate to sex.

Catholic has nothing to do with it. It is a sin because if you are not married then it is fornication which is the sin.

Yes, to lose it to someone you're not married to.
Heb 13:4 "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."

I've been taught that sex is a gift from God. It's something that should only be done within marriages. It's not something you should abuse.
Having sex before marriage was not God's intention. If you mean getting raped, then that's obviously not your fault if you're the victim.

It's not a sin if we loose it to our spouses. IF we loose it before we're married, then yes, it's a sin.
