I think there should be "mutual special treatment". I don't mind going Dutch and I like to treat once in awhile. So does my s/o. But I do like the door opening, helping me with my coat, those kinds of things. And I like to straighten his tie, cook him something special, etc.

Kate the majority of the time this tradition holds true. However we do live in a much different time and so nowadays it is fine for women to either treat the odd time and/or for couples to go dutch. Being a bit old school myself I prefer to be the one that is responsible for events. However while my wife and I were dating there was the odd time when I would let her pick up the tab. She once got tickets to a concert without my knowledge and when I tried to pay for them she refused and said that I was always paying and that she wanted to treat me. And guess what I was fine with it that time. Ha! Not only did I get to see the Stones again but got to see them for free. Ha! Guess a lot of it has to do with how long you've been with the person also and your comfort level with always having the money spent on you.

a woman should be treated like a lady, she should be respected. but you can't expect a guy to pay for everything all the time. but you should not have to pay for him all the time. some people feel things should be really 50/50 it depends on the couple and their relationship. there should be some type of understanding.
