There are a couple of possibilites why your new glasses are making your eyes hurt. If you had a substantial prescription change, it can take time to get your eyes used to the new lenses. When did you pick them up? Today? Or several days or weeks ago? If you've just gotten them today, especially if you picked them up later in the day, wear your old glasses for the rest of the day and then put the new ones on first thing in the morning after your eyes are rested and after you haven't been using your old glasses for most of the day. If you picked them up several days or weeks ago and things don't seem to be improving at all, then you need to get in touch with your eye doctor. Take the glasses in to them, let them check them out. There are a lot of things that need to be checked. They need to make sure the lenses are ground right and that the measurments are made to specifications from your doctor. Sometimes a simple adjustment to the frame can also take care of the problem. If you switched lens materials that can also take some time to get used to. Going from plastic to polycarbonate lenses can sometimes make an adjustment difficult, especially in higher prescriptions.
Either way, sounds like you need to call them and see what they say. They may have your doctor recheck you to make sure the prescription is correct. But don't wait to call. Most offices will be glad to recheck you and remake the glasses, provided you come in within a reasonable amount of time. I can't tell you how many patients I've seen who will say to me, "I got these glasses 2 years ago and I've just never been able to use them..." 2 years ago, I would have been able to do something about that. Glasses are too expensive and your vision is too precious to put off going back to have them fixed so you can wear them comfortably.
Good luck!

In getting new glasses, in my mind, they should not hurt your eyes! Any time I ever got new glasses and they made my eyes hurt, I figured something was wrong! I have gone back to the eye doctor, reported this problem to him and told him something was wrong with the glasses. AND I was right! He would check my glasses, and sure enough, the company that had made the glasses for him had made errors! In getting the glasses corrected, I had no more eyes hurting! This has happened to me twice in my lifetime, and each time with different eye doctors! So my advice is...go back to your eye doctor!! Good Luck!

Sometimes it takes time for your eyes to adjust to a new prescription. If your eyes still hurt after about 2 weeks you should consult your optician about your prescription and find out if there may have been an error.

The muscles that control eye-focus are trying to adjust to a slightly different position than the one they've been in for several months.
It's like trying to stretch your legs after sitting indian-style for several hours.
