did it have to do with them accusing Jesus of having the spirit of Satan?

It has EVERYTHING to do with them accusing Jesus of having the spirit of Satan. This saying of Jesus' was directed to his fellow religious people, who had observed him doing GOOD, and called it the work of "satan", i.e. evil. The very point of Jesus' words is that if you see good and think it's evil, how can you ever become good? You can't. Until your mind becomes untwisted to the point where you understand that good is good and evil is evil, you can never be made good. The capacity for forgiveness rests not with God's ability to forgive; it is in the inner disposition of the individual.

Peace to you.

The unforgivable sin of speaking against the Holy Spirit has been interpreted in various ways, but the true meaning cannot contradict other Scripture. It is unequivocally clear that the one unforgivable sin is permanently rejecting Christ (John 3:18; 3:36; etc.). Thus, speaking against the Holy Spirit is equivalent to rejecting Christ with such finality that no future repentance is possible. “My Spirit shall not always strive with man,” God said long ago (Genesis 6:3). Jesus added: “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him” (John 6:44). In the context of this particular passage (Matthew 12:22-32), Jesus had performed a great miracle of creation, involving both healing and casting out a demon, but the Pharisees rejected this clear witness of the Holy Spirit that Jesus was exercising powers only God possessed. Instead they attributed His powers to Satan, thus demonstrating an attitude permanently resistant to the Spirit and to the deity and saving gospel of Christ.

Jesus warned them because things were about to change. In John 15, Jesus warned the Hebrews to abide(believe) or be cast off..Romans 11 confirms that the natural branch was indeed cast offf due to unbelief.

Elaine is correct. Unbelief is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

As an aside, remember Saul/Paul...when he met Jesus on the Damascus Road? He made a startling confession for a Pharisee. He admitted he did not know God.

Who are you Lord?

Once Jesus identified Himself, Paul did not waste one second lamenting his evil ways...he simply believed as affirmed by his next question.

What do you want me to do?

Those who know His claims are true and reject him anyway sin 'against the Holy Spirit' because its the Holy Spirit who testifies of Christ and makes His truth known to us. The Pharisees had already rejected the fullest possible revelation.

The sin He was confronting was the Pharisees' deliberate rejection of that which they knew to be of God. They could not deny the reality of what the Holy Spirit had done through Him, so they attributed to Satan a work that they knew was of God. The Pharisees declared that He was from Satan - exactly opposite the truth, and they knew it.

Because believing in the Holy Spirit is not the same as doing something that would go against it.

That is what the pharisees did when they denied that Jesus was the Messiah. Why? Because they clearly saw evidence of the holy spirit operating on him and instead of acknowledging it, said he performed his miracles with the help of Beelzebub.

They stated that Jesus performed miracles by the power of Satan when in reality it was by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The job of the Holy spirit is to witness to people about Jesus as the Christ/Messiah/chosen one of God.

Yes, it had to do with them accusing Jesus of getting his powers from Satan.
Good question.

Blasphemy against the H.S. is the "Rejection of Christ" which the Jews did! They wanted a "Messiah" to "Kill" their "Opposition" and make them "Rulers" of the World! Christ in their oppinion was not that person as their "Hearts" were "Hardened" with "Hate & Revenge" spawned by their "Arrogance Complex" creating the "Blockage" in their "Lobes" so that they could not "Absorb" what He was "Teaching".
