My dog hacks a little if she has anything in her throat. Normal. By now, if it is still going on, you might have another problem, and your vet can help. But know this: dogs are natural creatures who regularly chew all types of non-food items in the wild. They spit out most, but some stuff comes out the other end, and our dogs are tougher than we allow them to be. If your dog is making a hacking sounding cough, he may have kennel cough, which will first be noticed when you think he has something "stuck" in his throat! It requires medication from your vet. By the way, what kind of cookie? Chocolate is toxic to dogs, as are raisins.A better treat? Go to the market and get bones and let him eat the marrow, or buy pre-cut beef stew cubes, fry em for about five minute, and feed to your dog medium rare and dripping with juice. He will adore you for it! Best to stick to as natural a diet as possible, though it's not popular these days... Good luck, and when in doubt, call your vet! P.S. The fact that he's running around is a good sign, because if his airway was obstructed, he would be getting limited air flow and would be running out of energy. Plus, NOTHiNG on earth can choke for a half hour! People mean well, don't get offended by bossiness, happens all the time here and i'm guilty of it too. If the hacking continues tonight and occurs tomorrow, it's prob. KENNEL COUGH, highly contagious, even if you had a vaccine for it there are many different varieties. The medicine isn't that expensive, so don't worry. Like fifty bucks.

"ok its not that big of a deal!!! "

Yes, it is a big deal.

Your dog has a foreign object, whatever the size, in his throat which is his airway. It will continue to make him cough until it is removed by a qualified licensed veterinarian.

Please get on the phone and get the cash or credit card and take him to the vet's office NOW.

Your dog is completely dependent on you for his well being.

How would you react if you had a "little bit of stick" in your throat? I'm very sure you would go to the hospital to have it removed.

Take Care of Your Dog.

Take him to the vet to have the stick removed before it causes further damage.

If its lodged in his throat it IS A BIG DEAL. You were irresponsible in letting him chew a stick, they can cause serious harm. Be responsible now and take him to the vet.

He's coughing because it irritating his throat, it needs to come out.

Get him to a vet ASAP! sounds like the stick is lodged across the top of his mouth, which means his airways will be patent at the moment, but this could slip and he could choke, the vet may be able to remove it with the dog being awake, or he may need a slight sedation, either way hurry up and get to the vet!
