The Weatherby will probably punch paper better, and you'll probably enjoy the Ruger more for hunting. Your choice is going to depend on your priorities. We all (at least we should) shoot at paper more than deer, but you're going to have to decide whether you want a deer gun or a target gun that can be used for deer. Also, if you're going to spend that much on the Ruger and aren't going to use it for anything bigger than deer, you might want to consider having them order you a 7mm08. Though designed by and for silhouette shooters, it's about the perfect whitetail caliber.

i would buy the Ruger because it is made in the USA
the Weatherby is made in japan last i heard
308 is more accurate than a 30/06
the 30/06 is more versatile but if the biggest game your after is deer the 308 is fine

it really depends on what you want to do more target shoot or hunt. ammunition is basically the same price. i would choose the weatherby save the $150.00 and put a good scope on it. plus the 30-06 is the best all around choice for hunting.

Both are good. The .308 ammo may be slightly more abundant n cheaper. The .30-06 is slightly more powerful. Both are great deer guns.
Best.

i prefer the 30.06 myself. good deer gun, bear gun, noose or elk. just do not use it on a rabbit. you need SOME meat to eat. 30.06 is a reliable gun and used widely in penna, for deer and bear. cheaper too. of course both are very expensive for shooting at targets. look at both.

your going to spend a lot more time carrying it & looking at it than shooting it, so get the one that feels right to you. both calibres are adequate for most game & available anywhere. so pick the one you like best as a piece of art.
