Collect all your unwanted/unused medicines, prescribed creams and expired items together and take them back to the pharmacy/drug store. Some GP practices offer to dispose of them too.

Please never flush away or put in the regular rubbish any expired medications or creams.

No. Never flush them. While flushing stops the accidental (or intentional) misuse of a drug, it contaminates the water supply. You can return them to your pharmacist or physician's office. If you MUST dispose of them yourself, place them in a sealed plastic container. Add a little water to solid pills and a little kitty litter to liquid medicines. Place tape around the lid., place that container into another plastic container and tape that, as well. I know it sounds very anal retentive, but finding trace medicines in our water supply is a growing problem which affects us AND aquatic life.

Most of the pharmacy take back expired medication and they will dispose of them properly. Contact them to see if they do or show you to one that does.

That it appears to be the easy solution. It is wrong however because it may place your meds into drinking water or harm sea life or the environment

I would call a local hospital and ask what they suggest. You can also contact your doctor or pharmacy.
