A nanny is a well paid superior family servant who looks after the smaller children full time . Mother may or may not go out to work.
A childminder provides a facility where a mother can leave her children while she goes to work until they are old enough for her to leave them at school.

A childminder is someone who looks after a child for a limited part of the day or week and nanny has the responsibility for the child full time. There are actually two different qualifications. However having said that some ladies with childminding qualifications do get jobs as nannies. My granddaughter does it.
