Being a guy myself, I would say that the differences between what a woman pays compared to me is shocking. I happen to work in insurance and know for a fact that if I was a woman, I would be paying just under £700 per year less. But insurance companies aren't sexist, they base premiums on statistics and unfortunately for men, the statistics show that we are a higher risk than a woman of the same age etc. But they have the issue of child birth, I'd rather pay more for insurance than go through that!

READ THIS, IT IS TRUE.

The weight in pricing varies from company to company and by claims experience over time, but, for example, with all other factors being equal, a female between the ages of 18 and 25 would pay less than her male counterpart because as a rule younger women drivers have fewer accidents and moving violations than males in the same age group.

Many auto insurance industry experts would agree with the theory that males, especially young men, tend to drive more aggressively than women and display their aggression in a direct manner, rather than indirectly. Furthermore, as a rule of thumb, male drivers are more likely than women to break the law, and the male of the species tends to be more of a risk-taker.

There's no stereotype - insurance companies work on cold hard facts. The insurance market is competitive enough (especially with comparison websites) that if any insurance company mis-estimated a risk by stereotyping, another company would be in like a shot to hoover up all the disenfranchised customers.

Yes. Males are typically charged more for ANY KIND OF INSURANCE than females. Why? Good question. They claim men are in more car crashes than females; but on a per mile basis or time basis, men have far fewer crashes than females. Health and life insurance are lower for females because females live longer.
Everything done by the Government and Big Business is based upon stereotypes; they assume a male of a certain age is likely to get drunk and charge all males the same rate, irregardless of actual facts.
It is disgusting that the very Govenment that tells people to not employ stereotyping does it themselves.

They are not stereotyping. Actual statistics show that young men have more accidents than anyone else. It's not necessarily that they are worse drivers, it's that they are more likely to speed, drive under the influence, take greater chances, and otherwise put themselves in situation where accidents happen more often.

They claim to use statistics that prove men are more likley to be involved in accidents thus the higher rates for men.

Personally, I have seen women apply makeup while driving and put SUVs into reverse and back them out looking straight ahead very frequently while I see men hot rod their cars by burning rubber and cutting in and out of traffic once in a while...but that's just me.

Whether you agree with the practice or not, insurance companies base their rates on statisical data. Everything is based on degree of risk, if that means insurance costs you more, then you'll just have to live with it.

All insurance companies work by stereotyping all of their customers by fitting them into risk profile groups.

Is it PC? Doesn't matter, the bigger question is if companies like "Shelia's Wheels" and Diamond (who only insure women) are actually acting illegally and are in breach of equal opportunities law.

It's all a matter of numbers. Men drive faster, more miles and have VERY bad collisions.
Just deal with it.
