i am only 18, because i have herd that u have to be over 21 to be able to do this

Generally speaking, if you live at home, you can't drive your mum's car unless you are on her policy.

Otherwise, your mum can loan her car to whoever she wants and her insurance will cover the driver. That is the general rule, but it may differ depending on your location and policy circumstances. It is always safest to check with your local insurance regulator or insurance provider.

To be able to legally drive her car, you either need to be on her policy or carry your own insurance that covers accidents (not just fire and theft). Age makes no difference unless her policy automatically covers anyone over 21 (most are 25) who drives her car.
