It greatly depends on your dog. There are a few options.
1.Brush your dogs teeth. There is a package you can buy at a local Pet Store (or walmart) in my case. It comes with a toothbrush and flavored toothpaste just for the dog. I use this method with my dog. He doesn't mind me brushing with the flavored toothpaste.
2. Go to your vet and have them clean his teeth and mouth cleaned.
3. Dental Chews and raw hides. Sure it may make his breath smell a little beefy, but it will keep his teeth clean.
Hope this helps

Go to the pet supply shop and purchase a dog toothbrush and toothpaste. It's not expensive. Human toothpaste is no good for dogs. Human toothbrushes are generally too hard for dogs.
If you're having trouble brushing your dog's teeth with a toothbrush, purchase a finger brush. It's a cup that fits on your finger, and it has bristles.
Another option would be tooth wipes. This is a jar of soaked cotton pads that you wrap around your finger and wipe your dogs teeth with. This is also available at pet supply shops.
The more often you clean your dog's teeth, the easier it gets.
Good luck.

Brush his teeth gently with a soft toothbrush and dog toothpaste (my greys prefer mint). Give him a raw knuckle bone to chew on occasionally. And if his teeth and gums are full of tartar, he needs to get his teeth cleaned at the vet. Gingivitis can lead to very serious health problems - kidney and heart are a couple, so if his teeth are in bad shape, they really need professional cleaning.

i have a german shepard, who has some of the ugliest looking teeth in the world, but my relative, whom also has a german shepard has great teeth.....the difference is that her dog chews on 'soup bones' and mine doesn't (b carefull of tooth breakage tho!).....u can try buying dental food, which doesn't really work that well, hard rubber bones (the ones with small teeth), the vet is always an option if u have the $. all they will do is scrape excess plaque off the tooth with a metal file...similar to our (human) dental procedure
hope u find something that works!

give him a dentastix everyday, you can get them in all supermarkets and pet shops, i give my 3 dogs one a day each and they have really healthy teeth and gums, but you can always take him to the vet to have his teeth professionally cleaned.
