I have a packard bell and just carrie out a system restore where it stores my laptop back to when i first got it. I chose the optioon for partial system restore so i dont lose any of my files. I can now longer find my files, maybe they have been deleted, but there prob is a way i can retrieve them again. Just think how the police can retrieve details from any pc, does anyone know how i can do this?

Have you had a look in program files?? Your data may still be there but placed in a folder... I have done something similar to this in the past and I thought I had lost all my data, however i found it in a folder which I think was called old.windows. Maybe worth having a look for nothing, but as someone said above it is always adviseable to back up or copy your files to an external device... you can get programs to retrive data from your recycle bin such as Tuneup Utilities.. but this will not be of any use to you as you have formatted your drive. As I said before though, have a look through all your system files, you may be lucky...

I did not really understood what your problem was. Anyway, the police uses sophisticated programs to retrieve data, and if you do an Internet search on data recovery you will find especial labs who will recover it for you at a cost.
Best bet for next time is to partition the disk, have your OS in one partition and your data on the other partition, is something goes wrong with your OS , you can always format that part, and re-isntall it and your data will be safe in the other partition.

Why did you do a system restore without backing up your stuff you numpty. I think you've lost them now.
You should always make backups before doing anything like this.
The police use specialist software to retreive data from disks.
If you don't have a way of backing up (like a USB key or external disk) just send important stuff to an online email account.

If you us System Mechanic 7 has a program that can search your drive for deleated files.
