The US, is not, nor has ever been run by a "Christian background".
It was created by rich men and landowners who did not want to pay taxes, and has remained so down to today.
These men have manipulated the masses of marginal believers since the country's inception to 'tow the line' by pandering to their beliefs whilst the whole time fulfilling their greedy agenda.

The fact that they are using the 'terrorist threat crap' to daily take away the rights our forefathers died fore, and that our young men are currently dying for, reveals that their insidious evil, will never stop.

You will notice that the words Christ and god do not appear in ether the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. Christmas was not recognized or honored by the United States until 60 years after the constitution was ratified. Until that time the federal government was open for business on Christmas. So where does the christian back ground idea come from ?

If it had not been founded on the Deist ideals of a God as the unmoved mover ( of Aristotle) and then subverted by the supposed "Christan ideals" which have caused more hatred and inequality, social division and strife rather than having promoted unity, honesty, truth and the pursuit thereof, justice and sense of fairness that included everyone, perhaps it might have been a much better and more civil place with more haves than have nots, with more brought alongs than left behinds, with less ruthless capitalism and more fair and honest business practices.

Sharia law? You figure it out. It would probably be like the old witch hunts and executions. Without any religion at all on this whole planet might lack complete morality or replace it with a dictatorship and martial laws. Which would you prefer? Order through chaos? Something has to change regardless.

Look at the countries in Europe and you'll have your answer. It would be better, obviously. It wouldn't be a country where an atheist could never be elected for a public office.

Probably just as "good" as we'd have to judge it using the moral scale of the alternate universe.
For sure, a lot of bad things wouldn't happen that do happen today. But there would be other bad things to replace it.
