My 15 year old female cat has just gone into heat. She was neutered when she was 6 months or so. There is a male cat hanging around that has caught her attention and I really don't think I can take any more of the yowling! I've never heard anything like it!!
Im so close to letting the silly cow out and let him have his wicked way with her!!
Can anyone tell me - is it safe for her to mate with him i.e could she get pregnant?
Has the neutering job 'reversed' itself with age?
Also, why has this happened at 15 years of age?
Thanks very much.

Claire.

Firstly I'd like to say thanks for the replies.
Just thought I'd add an update. Firstly, my cat HATES other cats so I know that this is not her normal behaviour. Also, I rang the vet today and he said get her in straight away. I'm really worried now by his reaction. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why he wants her in ASAP?
Thanks

Claire.

you are quite mistaken, about which part i am not certain. If your cat was truly spayed then both her ovaries and uterus were completely removed. I highly doubt that both her ovaries and uterus grew back. Since you say that this is the first time I am going to assume that your cat was in fact spayed. If this is the case then your cat is not in heat. Are you seeing vaginal discharge? If your only reason for believing that she is in heat is that she is screaming at the other cat, then you should know that she does not like him hanging around her territory. Do not let her out with him, he probably has Feline AIDS (FIV) this is highly contagious (even nonsexually) and there is no cure or preventitive vaccine for it.

Ok, first of all she was spayed not neutered and second of all if she was spayed then she is not in heat. If there is a chance that she wasn't spayed don't let her out w/ the male because she could end up pregnant and there would be kittens to find homes for which is easier said than done. Call your vet and take her in so that they can determine what exactly is going on w/ her.

Contact the vet who did the spaying and ask him to check the cat's file. A spayed female won't come into heat, but if a portion of the reproductive system was left behind, it can trigger the hormonal shift and start up again. Usually it doesn't wait anywhere near 15 years, but it's a possibility. This would be different than false pregnancy. He may have to give her a shot to bring her out of season.

When a female cat gets "fixed", both ovaries and the entire uterus are removed. There's no reproductive tract left and they can't grow another one.

Could she just be anxious and agitated that she's seeing a new cat around? Many times cats will see another cat out the window and they'll sit and stare and yowl and meow out of agitation.

Good luck!

generally a neutered male can nonetheless mate with a female. this is a robust factor in view that female cats will proceed to cycle as long as there is sufficient sunlight hours till they mate. The mating motives ovulation whether the female does not not become pregnant. this delivers a wreck once you may get the female spayed without as plenty possibility.

I really don't think that is possible. If your cat was spayed that long ago. Take your cat to the vet and have her checked out.

DO not let her out with the cat that is hanging around outside.

Get the hose and spray the cat that's hanging around...

If you let your silly cow out, she is most likely going to cream this hairball who's annoying the tar out of her. She has no parts with which to have kittens, she is just angry, angry, angry.
