Their legend, their "prophesies", their god, their call.
If the Roman people say that Hadrian was the best Emporer, so be it; noone else has the right to decide, against their word, that Augustus was best. Same principle. Any logical comments?

Kal: no they weren't. Check history for yourself. Most of the books of the new testament were actually written by gentile heretics over a century after the fact. Not exactly the most reliable type of information.

JackButler5555: Logical? hahahahah, ummm, I mean, not exactly. The Christians had no prophesies concerning a messiah, they had no prophesies at all, and had never heard of a messiah untill they stole the concept from Judaism. This is one of the most sheeplish answers yet, simply because you actually have the nerve to expect anyone to see logic in it. You have to be a gentile!

Firstly, to Fatima - oh, so you were there at the time, were you? You can testify to this 'corruption'? No, you can't, so drop the insults.
To the questioner: nice one! Have a star!
Jews know that Jesus could not have been the messiah for the simple reason that, according to Judaism, certain conditions will be fulfilled when the real messiah arrives. One of these conditions is world peace.
Need I say more...?
EDIT TO QUESTIONER: you're very amusing! Am glad you are deriving glee from the responses you're getting!

Logical? Yes!!!
They denied Jesus was the Messiah/Moshiah but agreed little more than a century later that a guy named Bar-Kochba WAS the Messish and put all of their support behind him. Read about the rebellion for yourself and then decide whether the Jews had it right on this guy:

Yes, Jesus DID lead the Jews to victory in battle -- spiritual battle, that is!
"Whether the Jewish messiah is ever coming is another matter...." ??? ALL Muslims believe that it is Jesus who will come at the end of the world to judge the living and the dead. Who but a Messiah could ever have such a role?

This falls into the category of such momentous questions as, how may angels can fit on the head of a pin.
If Jesus were called the Christian Messiah, would that satisfy you?
This is an example of a chip-on-your-shoulder religious discussion. Can we just agree that Jews are waiting for a Jewish Messiah and Christians think the Christian Messiah has arrived?
Logical enough?

Very true, but: It's based on perspective.
But how do we know what all the Romans believed in?
I am pretty sure that the Romans didn't take the minority's opinion.
Same thing with the Jews. You can't put a person with other people and expect them to share each others view; regardless of the religion.

you'd think so.
but if you want to insist that the one, is someone who entirely doesn't qualify or fulfill the commandments of Judaism, is the one, that wouldn't work.
if one knows what Judaism's prophecys and beliefs *actually* are, its rather obvious (even clearly empirically provable) that the messiah of Judaism has not yet come. and what christians generally belive jesus to be, *especially* could not be, even if you ignore the obvious current proof.
(such as the fact that after the messiah has come, there will be world peace and univesal knowlege of God, ... which obviously does not currently exist)
edit: >>"The prophesies tell that He had to suffer and to die,"<<
no, in fact, it does not. that is a lie.

who the messiah is will not be a "decision"... the effects he will have on the world will be so magnificent that it will be impossible to deny him when he comes. all the world will glance out their window one morning and know just by looking outside that the messiah is here, that is how profound the changes will be.
"Paul in particular argued in the synagogues daily"
the very fact that paul actually had to argue jesus's case in synagogues shows that jesus was not the messiah.

Are you suggesting it would need to be a unanimous decision?...because it seems to me that a whole bunch of Jews DID accept Jesus as the messiah. Every book in the New Testament was written by a Jew that accepted Jesus as the messiah.

"And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks:nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."
Isaiah 2:4
Until this happens, the Messiah won't have arrived. We can worry about the identity once we stop killing each other.

The Messiah was right there in their faces and they refused to recognize Him because they wanted the Judge who would bring in the New Jerusalem, not the Savior who died for the sin of mankind - the Teacher who taught accurately about the Kingdom of God - the Healer who extended mercy on the lame, the deaf and blind - the Compassionate One, who fed thousands - He didn't come to bring political reform or civic peace, but to make a way for all people to come to God.
The Messiah was decided upon by God since the foundations of the earth, as He is God come to earth as a man.
Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies about the Messiah. He has only to fulfill one - His return.

Damn straight.
They wrote the prophecies, they knew what their messiah was meant to look like, any they decided it didn't look like Jesus. Even so, you get Christians bastardising and distorting their scripture to fit their goals.
Did Jesus lead the Jewish people to victory in battle? No? Then he wasn't the Jewish messiah. Whether the Jewish messiah is ever coming is another matter, but it wasn't jesus.
