I'd suggest the XBOX360..... it costs half the price of the PS3, and they've made a few technical alterations that have fixed the teething troubles..
http://www.tech.co.uk/home-entertainment/gaming/games/xbox/xbox360/news/report-cooler-running-xbox-360-imminent?articleid=2028227720
I've also had word that the graphics of the PS3 are no better than the 360's, and the games for the 360 are better & more plentiful to choose from.

Or, you could get a Wii instead (if you can find one in stock)....

heck, for the price of a PS3 you could very probably buy an XBOX360 + the Wii at the same time.

FOr the long term the ps3 would be the better investment..Out of the box you can use all it's current features without purchase of other things .
Games are on the ps3 are on 50gig blueray(more room for games and graphics without sacrificing challenges...360 uses 8gig dvds so either graphics or game challenges would have to be sacrificed on such limited space.
Xbox 360 and elite require you to purchase additional hardware to fully use the system like the hddvd player for $200, the quick charger for $20 and the Wifi for $100 which puts the purchase price well over the Ps3 .. 360 Elite $479 plus all addons would cost $799...Ps3 which includes all that is only $499.
I am not sure where the guy above gets his information about the 360 but Microsoft doesn't even know what the primary cause of the componants on the board warping so how can it fix what it can't find....They have not re-engineered the 360 motherboard, it is the same motherboard on the core, pro and elite and it is the same on the latest 65nm machine so they have not found the problem or else they would release a press release stating it has been solved...The 360 sales numbers include all the skews replacing the crashed ones currently that would 33% of all 360's have had hardware failure and microsoft estimates that they will all suffer it at some point, so don't you think microsoft wants to fix it and make it public so people who don't already own one buy it...

i would get the ps3 for MANY MANY reasons
i'll list some of the reasons
- ps3 has a built-in blu-ray player
- ps3 has much more and better exclusives, most of them cant go to xbox 360 because it cant handle that many data(HD DVD- 8.5gb, blu-ray 25gb)
- online is free for ps3 not like 360
- ps3 will have over 300 games released by this spring
- when developers get used to the system, the graphics will be WAY better than 360. should take them a year to get used to it
- playstation home is coming out this spring, its a virtual community where you can hang out with friends and customize your own apartment which xbox doesnt have
- ps3 is a true HD console. xbox 360 upscale games to 1080p and ps3 DISPLAY games up to 1080p
- built in Wi-Fi
- xbox 360: 33% hardware failure
ps3: 3% hardware failure
those are the ones that i know right off my mind but there are much more reason than this
Prices as of today:
ps3- 80gb: $599
60gb: $499
xbox 360- $399 (if you want the accessories that ps3 comes with, that would add up to over 700 dollars)
Prices for the holidays(rumors)
ps3- 80gb: $499
40gb: $399
didnt hear anything about 360 but it probably will stay at $399

If you get a 360 now, there's a very low chance of it breaking cause they've fixed the issues. Right now, there's only about 2 good PS3 games that aren't on the 360. Don't listen to all those stupid specs, the games are what matter right? It is a gaming machine...
With the 360 you have Bioshock (one of the highest-rated games ever, not coming to PS3), Halo 3 (in like 2 days), Crackdown and heaps of sporting games (though the sports games you can get on PS3 too)
Honestly, you won't regret getting the Xbox 360. I have both and the PS3 is basically an expensive coaster right now. I play my Nintendo 64 more.

Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only 0.3%.
Let's compare them
PS3 has 8 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 50 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular DVD (4.7 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 130 $
Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of doom" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.
Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is a uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games.
In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

the ps3 is a better games console, most ea sports games like madden are available on both. you should try and test drive both in your gamestore, then have a look at the bundles on offer
