Consumer is a winner! As a result of this war, we have two wonderful competing technologies - at VERY low prices ($250 for HD DVD and $399 for Blu-Ray).
Take a plunge - $50 or so you will save by waiting for another year is not worth the wait - you will be able to actually hear and see what billions of dollars spent by Hollywood on making movies is spent on.

It's hard to say although I believe the "Blu-Ray" name is bigger out their because I hear a lot of people talking about Blu-ray probably because the name is easier to say then "HD DVD". If your looking into purchasing a player, you might consider the LG unit that will play both type of discs. Also, at CES I heard some studios were going to be releasing a double sided disc with side one being Blu-Ray and side two being HD-DVD..

This won't be decided for at least another year or two. I think that Blu-Ray will win out because of the studios that have sided with it. The Die Hard movies, Disney movies and Pixar movies will all be out on Blu Ray coming up soon. It also helps that the bluray player on the PS3 is actually a pretty good one while the xbox360's hddvd player is atrocious.

Based on what i have read it looks like both will coexist for sometime to come & the fact that paramount pictures has sided with HD-DVD can & will be a factor (transformers in oct) indiana jones ect.... will be big sellers when released. We are still in the wait & see stages. For me it does not matter i support both.

Neither. HD DVD and Blu-ray are not quantum leaps in technology.

As far as I am concerned: neither. As long as they continue to make the consumer pick one and release titles only in one format or the other, i hope they die like the audio format wars did because the consumer sure doesn't win.

It's virtually a dead heat right now.

Don't get suckered into buying anything now. Give it another year.
