Yes, it is a religion. It takes great faith to believe that there isn't a God when there's so much evidence that there is.
It also takes great faith to believe that the dog and the cat had a common ancestor, despite scientific evidence to the contrary. It also takes great faith to believe that if you experiment crossing different kinds of dogs, you will eventually get a horse, given enough time. Atheists are far more dogmatic about their beliefs than we are, because they refuse to open their minds and look at the evidence.
