Everything is important. There is no one component that makes a relationship work, its a combination of several.

Loyalty, honesty, chemistry, communication, selflessness, respect and being romantic are just a few. But One without the others, is worthless.

Relationships are not just something you can bask in. Its hard work to be loved, and loving back. A true relationship consists of two people who acknowledge that, and work together to build a love together.

My grandfather once told me making love last a lifetime is easy, just finding the right person is the hard part... But once you do, Its about putting in 100% to your mate. Loving them unconditionally. Giving them your all. Dedicating your life to thier happiness, and comfort. Going all lengths to see them smile, stopping at nothing to make them happy... And expecting NOTHING back in return. And having a mate that follows those exact guidelines too.... That is what 75 year long marriages are made of...

You must share common interests. We've all heard the phrase "opposites attract" but too often a relationship can dissolve from the inside out if you and your partner don't share enough things in common. My dad was kind of a populist guy and my mom tried hard to be an intellectual and I got the impression that they were never truly happy together. I think that they stayed unhappily married for the sake of me and my brothers. There was always a vague undercurrent of tension in my household and it seems like such a waste. I remember voicing my concerns about this when I was a boy when I would half jokingly say to my mom, "You and dad should get a divorce" (the joy of being a kid is that you can say anything and get away with it). I honestly wouldn't have minded if my parents split up. I would have been more than happy to live with my mom and a "blue state" step dad instead of with my dad and his new "redneck" football-loving, beer-guzzling wife.

Loyalty.
Loyalty means you don't make fun of each other when others are around.
Loyalty means you don't make fun of each other to other peole when one of you is not around.
Loyalty means you don't complain about each other to other people.
Loyalty means you don't steal from each other.
Loyalty means you don't have harmful secrets from/against each other. (Harmless secrets are a necessity for heightened allurement in a relationship. But remember, it's harmless only for as long as only one of you knows it, and for as long as it increases the attractiveness of the other.)
If one of you begins to think/feel that there is something seriously wrong in the relationship, talk to each other. If one of you thinks/feels talking is not going to help, it's time to end the relationship.
I am sure there are other things important in a relationship, but for me, loyalty is the foundation and source of all things good in a relationship.

"You can't trust without love and you can't love without trust" -Me Constructive Communication- Most relationships fail because people don't know how to talk to each other or only talk about petty things to avoid underlying issues.

when you have that unconditional love thing, that's the best

all three of my wives have that (and they know who they are)

then maybe the bodies can get a chance to rent a room and get some, maybe not though
